Cleveland is dropping the Indians name. Official announcement coming this week. Spiders is the rumored new name

Atlanta is on the clock.
I was pulling for the Mitlens.

So final Indians title — 1948

The Braves name —  an English word not restricted to what they depict — can be fine in the eyes of the businesscrats if they could shed themselves of the chop etc.

I like Mistake by the Lake.

I saw Clemens get his 20th win there 30 years ago. 9k fans in a 75k seat stadium was weird.

They’d have to move to W. Pa

Ethnic cleansing of every Native American team name across the spectrum. Chiefs, Blackhawks.... just think of all the new jerseys that will be sold.

Cleveland has the easiest solution of any team. Just get the Spiders trademarks in order and change what’s on the front of the home uniforms. They don’t have to change the colors or logo.

I prefer the Naps in honor of Nap  Lajoie.

As for the Atlanta Baseball Club, they already have another nickname - the Knights Templar.

The Spiders are more than just their 1899 season, but that's the single most famous thing they are known for. I wouldn't want my team to be called the Spiders.

If I were running CLE, I would be pushing for Fire or Flames. Comes with a built-in brand and aesthetic. You can wear fire department colors, you can have a dalmation as a mascot, you can play a fire siren when the team scores. Hell, the bullpen cart can be a fire truck.

If they want to go the Negro League route (as, I understand, the Nationals almost did), the most established Negro Leagues team in Cleveland were the Buckeyes.

I'd imagine they wouldn't want to infringe on Ohio State.

How about Cleveland Rocks?

Or ditch the nicknames and just go with the city (even tho some city names are in the crosshairs of the cancel culture crowd too).

Why not just name after a Korean team?  The "Cleveland NC Dinos" has a confusing and delightful ring to it.

The WNBA team was already called the Rockers.  That's why it won't happen.

The Grovers.

As long as every season they enter the 47th game at either 22-24 or 24-22.

Filipino pro basketball leads the world for corporate team names. The Toll Road system sponsors a team known as the Road Warriors but my favorite team name is the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, sponsored by a paint company.
