dombrowski will spend, consistent with the owner's intention when he bought the team. He will also acquire expensive players from tight.money teams or fire sales. Because the intent is to contend quickly, he will trade what prospects and cheap lineup assets that are around for upgrades. He doesn't sell prime vets for prospects until the window has closed.
They just don’t have the prospects at this point to trade. They would have to trade Nola or Wheeler or Bohm. That doesn’t help. He is being brought on to retool the organization including drafting, player development and use of analytics. Basically to undo what MacFAIL and Klentak did the past few years. His legacy is enough that he is a cinch for the HOF at soem point in time. So he doesn’t have to build a contender in a year or two to cement his legacy.
