Amazing what happens when you sell high on a player

Mets are pursuing Liam Hendricks.  Is there anyone they are not trying to sign?

Probably not. Kind of embarrassing that they aren't good, given how much talent they have. I don't see them bailing on Diaz so quickly. They need to grab some more starting pitching and put Lugo back in the pen.

But they have money and they're a huge market. They should be competitive year in and year out.

do they have any prospects he can trade?
Actually no. Not good ones anyway.

I wonder if they are giving him a small ownership share?

Dombrowski to the Phils?

Well, Cora is unavailable, maybe he'll bring Beltran in...

So he will raze the franchise, leaving it utterly bereft of prospects and cash. The only question is will it end in a title (Marlins/Red Sox) or disappointment (Tigers).

I think this ends any questions about the Phillies financial situation

Why do you say that?  Dombrowski has sold off assets before in Florida and Detroit.

Dombrowski isn't taking a job for a firesale. He's there to build a winner.

Doesn’t mean that they will automatically sign Realmuto either. Or that they won’t trade a wheeler to restock the farm system. I suspect they are giving him some ownership of the team so it’s a long term deal for him.

Phillies and McCann?  Maybe just to screw the Mets.

Didn’t Dombrowski build the Expos farm system while there? Didn’t he also preside over the Marlins fire sale of veterans for prospects after they won the World Series? Or was that another Dave Dombrowski? He’s taken different approaches in different places.

And they have the worst record in baseball since then
I didn’t say he was successful at it. You said his hiring ensured there was no way the Phillies would do it.
It’s not the worst hire they could have made.  He has taken different approaches in different places. Several works series appearances. Better than McFAIL.

And at 64 he's not looking to compete far into the future.

Dombrowski is being brought in as President of Baseball Operations. To rebuild the organization. Which by definition means he is not being hired not just for short term moves.

Can’t read the whole article but have seen some quotes beyond the first two paragraphs. He’s being brought in to redo the organization.

They can't go into a rebuild in year 3 of Bryce, but also have a bad team and few prospects. I expect him to try to load them up again but that's all they've been doing recently so should be more of the same.
