This guy is on record as saying he doesn’t get along with people.

Gotta like an honest man...do it, Rizzo!

I think the bigger issue is the money. If they pay him $25 million they only have like $20 million left to pay everyone else not under contract including Turner who won’t be cheap this year.  2022 will be more doable once Max is off the books.

I can't imagine that Trevor Bauer isn't a clubhouse cancer, and he certainly has the potential to be a PR nightmare for any team who signs him based on his Twitter feed alone. But look at the year he just had, not that he consistently has good years.

Lol, 25 million? That's funny.

He was due to make $17.5 million this season.

And Bauer's agent is throwing around $40M a year. More than a few pundits are seeing possibly as much as $30 mil.

Yea, if Bauer only gets 25 million AAV, his agent failed or the owners aren't spending any money in free agency.

Yes, I believe that would be for one year.  Have to assume if multi-year it would be less dollars.  But still more than $20 million.  Corbin's contract has an AAV of $23 million.  Even with COVID hard to see him getting less than that.

I don't see why he wouldn't get close to Strasburg's deal, if he wants a long term contract. He's younger and just as good

because revenue is getting decimated this year and probably will next year too. Meanwhile tons of costs are fixed

That's the only reason I can think of. But on a one year deal, he should be getting that AAV.

I think the money woes of the owners will be felt by the non elite talent. Guys like Stroman, Paxton, Gregarious, and La Stella would have gotten big deals in past years, but owners will now instruct their GMs to find replacements at lower costs.

A lot depends on how they forecast revenue next year- if they think that’ll be way down too, I’d expect players to feel pain across the spectrum

Many of them might end up with one year contracts with all the uncertainty over COVID and the CBA.

They may expand the playoffs next year to generate more revenue.  The owners have not suffered that much. The Mets just sold and no indication COVID had any impact on the price.

Manfred is on record as wanting an expanded playoffs goi g forward. Maybe not 16 teams but I’d imagine at least 14 with one bye

This could possibly work and be a worthwhile incentive to go hard for the best record.  If the WC series is Monday - Thursday, the #1 seed would start it's series Friday or maybe Saturday,  which is close to the layoff they got when there was a 4 vs. 5 play-in.  You wouldn't ice the #1 with too long of a layoff, which is sometimes a drawback for winning series quickly.

I don't know if expansion is still on Manfred's agenda, but if there were 32 teams, I imagine they might realign to 8 four-team divisions. That might be used to justify a 16-team playoff structure. Not a scenario I would favor, but it could be out there.

Is Tosches the assistant pitching coach?

Rizzo had to be the one to call Dusty.  This time he had someone to delegate it to.  That's always how it went where I worked.  Well hardly anyone ever fired but when bad news came.

Martinez wanted to do it and wants Rizzo out of the coach decisions.

One man's jerk is another man's hero.  If he wins games, he'll have plenty of fans...

The TL;DR version is that Davey got a three year deal but didn't get to pick his staff when he first came to DC.

Was responding to a comment in this thread about Doo and Trea not getting along ..., but they patched it up, they worked it out.  I’m an autograph collector, what do you think I talk to the players about?

Cabrera doesn’t like to sign autographs, neither did Bryce, neither does Scherzer, I can’t say how they feel because I don’t know

Harper loved to sign autographs for the kids...he sought them out.  I witnessed it every spring training and then some.  He may still.

He gladly signed several things for me over his years in DC as well...

It was the pushy old autograph collectors that turned him off.
