Max has put his McLean home on the market for $15MM after recently buying a $10MM home in Jupiter, FL, Spring Training home of the Cards and Fish, and about 15 minutes north of the Nats WPB ST site...

This is a smart long term move for him. It's not like he is getting another huge deal, maybe 3 years to be a 4-5 at probably something like 15M a season tops. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if he stays in DC because I think the Nats could and would pay for a few more seasons at that rate.

I wonder if he'll retire after this upcoming season.  He'll be 37 next year, his kids will be 4 and 2.  I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to stay home and be a full-time dad for a while.

Pretty sure 100% of pitching coaches say they want their pitchers to throw strikes and work quick.

Don’t forget change speed - real ground breaking stuff there

Very possible as well. Max always was the guy that would "take himself out of a game" if he felt he didn't have it or felt he couldn't go the distance. He may decide to leave on his own terms and call it a career.

In other news, assuming the Pirates decline Chris Archer's option, an incentive laden contract to reunite him with his old pitching coach might be enticing for Archer and the Nats. I am hesitant to give an pitcher coming off TOS surgery a deal though as so few in recent memory seem to come back from the procedure.

At this point, I'll try anything.

Relievers that were good come here and aren't good. Young guys don't develop here and aren't ready when they are here.

If Rizzo is going to insist on  building through starting pitching, then we need to be able to develop it.

Zuck says Nats hired Jim Hickey. Worked with Davey in Tampa and Chicago (he replaced Bosio).
another interesting guy who was out of a job this year was Jim Hickey.  I wonder if Davey has already spoken to him.  Would be one of those Madden staff connections.

Screw that and the horse that wimp rode in on. I can’t recall Max ever coming out voluntarily. He always insisted on staying in.
I tried to fix it for him.  He might have been talking about a different Max?

Anyone who spews that crap about Max pulling himself out of games regularly deserves to be called dense. So let me know what the fine is and I’ll pay it out of my new SS paycheck.

Please no. His slash line for the year.

.211/.283/.274.

He’s cooked.

.262   .314   .354 with us, and he plays multiple positions.  He's serviceable as a backup IF/OF and a monumental improvement over Difo

Ops for the year means that with his .658 OPS with the Nats, it really raised his year average of OPS to .547. Just how bad was he because with such a small season, the Nats must have had him for a third of the season, right? Unless I'm just completely missing something, that doesn't sound like much of an upgrade over a bag of potato chips, let alone a replacement level player.

I'd think taking a flyer on him with a 1 year deal for less than a million or a minor league deal with a spring training invite might make sense.  He's always hit well against righties and he can play any position (and pitch!)

As long as they keep the expanded roster rules they used this year, sure. I'd be prepared to use him only as a late inning defensive sub or pinch runner. I feel like this year's batting stats with the Nats are blind squirrel, finding nut, territory.

Even his Nats stats are below replacement level.  Would prefer they looked for younger players with more potential upside. The Tampa model.
