It's one year.  Doesn't mean that the less payroll teams will win next year.  The two teams are obviously doing something right on scouting and player development.
I think it does. Player pay has been an issue now the last three years. It damn sure is going to be one next year.

Still will be some teams to spend. And some of the teams that don’t spend have mo chance.

Not sure if this site is totally accurate but in the final four teams you have the #2, 4 and 13 teams in addition to Tampa at 28. It’s not clear from any one year what the best strategy is.  The teams that have won recently have all been high payroll. Maybe this year will not be but that’s not a trend.

Since 1997, you've had the Marlins (twice), Diamondbacks and Royals as Series winners on what I'm assuming were relatively low payrolls.

Starting May on one day of rest seems a panic move by Roberts.  I know he will only probably go an inning or so but still.

Is there a better option?

And all fell back down right afterward- sustained runs require a high payroll

Gonsolin. Urias.  I’m sure both will pitch. The smart move would have been to pull Urias after an inning or so when they were winning by so much in Game 5.

The only teams that have stayed competitive year after year with a low payroll are Oakland and Tampa. It’s obviously not easy to do.

The Giants won 3 times in 5 years without ever going higher than the 8th-highest payroll (two of their winners were 10th in payroll).  It's not like that's a small-market dynasty, but it also isn't spending like the Yankees or Dodgers.

And they’re about the same now. Just not near as good.

Looked it up and the Phillies had the 13th highest payroll in 2008. Lots of homegrown young talent and cheap Rule 5 pickups. Of course then the payroll went up but not the success.

Gonsolin is trash. Urias is a lefty so they'll want to use him situationally.

LOL.

Walked the first two batters. Who could have predicted that.

I wanted to see a Doyers / *'s WS just for the sideshows that would surely ensue, so Barves / Rays works...as long as the Rays win.  Quite a coup for the Tampa Bay area if they pull it off...

...and TB12 apparently has the Bucs in contention for a SB appearance in their own stadium.  That would certainly put an exclamation point on just how crappy 2020 has been...

Gonsolin gave up a homer to the bottom of the order. He's a journeyman/swing man

Give me a break. Swanson is not the bottom of the order. He retired the top of the order without a hit.  That’s why he is still out there for a third inning.

He's out there for a third inning because Dave Roberts is a terrible postseason manager

That we can agree on.  Like I said before he had no need to pitch Urias five innings in game five with a huge lead.
