camo or classic Ray Kroc era stuff? how's the Friar look?
Modern stuff. Plain blue hat, desert camo hat, 2016 blue All Star patch hat with yellow D in the SD, the yellow and brown alternate hat they wore for the past couple of years, a grey shirt, a blue shirt, and a retro style brown shirt. Nothing from their current redesign. They’re my second team, I guess. And yeah, NANF or whatever. :D

I’m guessing the Astros will be wearing body armor?

We root for Houston because everyone will go nuts. If they can beat the Yanks and Dodgers without trash cans it’s a classic American redemption story. Including the playoff failure Dusty.

Dusty Baker is now a saber genius who masters the bullpen:

Quote
Monday’s success keeps the Astros’ bullpen ERA this postseason at a sparkling 0.00 in 14.2 innings to go with 14 strikeouts and six walks. Most of that good work belongs to Framber Valdez, who stymied the Twins in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series with five scoreless innings behind Zack Greinke. But his long outing has proven to be only an extreme example of how Houston is approaching relief pitching when it lacks dominant setup men. Length has been the key to the Astros’ success: Baker followed his use of Valdez in Game 1 against the Twins by turning to the 23-year-old Javier, who was excellent as a starter during the regular season, as his go-to arm in Game 2 versus Minnesota, having him throw three innings in relief of Jose Urquidy. A similar situation played out against Oakland, with Baker opting for Paredes after McCullers and letting him throw two frames before finishing up with an inning apiece from Taylor, Javier, and Pressly.

It is, in effect, a piggyback pitching structure that mirrors the way those young arms came up through Houston’s system. It’s also the sensible response to the new structure of this postseason, with its extra round of play and a lack of days off that make it borderline impossible either to lean on a small core of relievers or use them for one inning each every single game. Instead, Baker is trying to maximize the number of outs his repurposed starters and swingmen can give him and hoping their raw stuff can overcome their age. So far, so good, though that strategy will be complicated by this being a best-of-five series, which will force him to start Valdez (who will take the ball in Game 2) and keeps him from letting any of his arms go too long in relief.

He wanted to use Verlander for nine innings but they kept reminding Dusty he was injured.

funny, but the one series I had the most respect for Dusty's managing was the one when he went to Max in relief and then the inning fell  apart on the blown catcher's interference and all those weird ways runs scored.

Right, so if the 1920 White Sox has been allowed to finish the season and win out (and maybe played a shortened affair with no fans because flu), all penalty-free for the players, that would’ve been a classic American redemption story?

A key issue with the Astros is definitely having the talent to conceivably win in 2017 — of course needing to go through the usual challenges of getting it done the first time — but apparently  choosing instead to cheat in a fundamental way.

Letting that title stand after the commissioner specified major and consequential penalties for anything further after the Apple Watch matter (and they evidently doubled down) was bad enough. Having essentially the same core get the piece of metal even in this ridiculous exercise after they got off the hook for Black Sox-level antics has more potential to be sport-killing stuff than anything resembling a classic American redemption story (unless I guess if Enron had come back).

Baker used Sammy Solis in a meaningful inning. That alone was grounds to no renew his contract

almost as bad, or maybe worse, than using Edwin Jackson in a playoff game as a reliever.

Aw freak that. I usually am very measured and calm in my sports viewing, but that made me legit mad.

At this point (end of the 8th inning), the Marlins and Braves have combined for as many runs in this game as were scored by all four teams in all four games in their two wild card series.

Two of the worst umpires in the past decade behind home plate today in playoff games.  How does that happen?

9 pitchers to get 24 outs for SD.

Interesting for the Dodgers that they used May in relief.  Suggests he might be handcuffed with Buehler with the plan to bring that tandem back for any game 5.
