And on cue, here is AJ Cole!
And there goes AJ.

Still waiting to see Tanner Roark, Tyler Clippard, Dane Dunning and Reynaldo Lopez.  In addition to the four ex Nats who pitched today.  Did I miss anyone? I believe all four who pitched today were Nats draft picks.

Giolito certainly showed he is not an elite pitcher today.  Couldn't even get a shutout.  And walked a batter.

What’s his ERA in his last three playoff games?   :hysterical:

Looked it up. Lopez was left off the Sox roster. As was the original Gio.

Game 1 between the Yanks and Indians was a let down

There's a pretty good bag-sealer infomercial on the Shopping Network right now.

Twins have now lost 17 playoff games in a row. How on earth does that happen?

The Marlins are going to win the World Series this year because they have been training for this moment by playing with no fans in the stands for years.

I dunno.  I think the Rays could give them a run for the money on that, if it weren't for the occasional Red Sox / Yankees home away from home games.

well, the Marlins have never lost a playoff series, so there's that.

I just tuned in to the Braves/Reds. Just A-Rod and Matty V? No Jessica Mendoza on this broadcast?

I really like the idea of expanded playoffs. A sixteen team playoff would result in a lot more teams being competitive over the course of the season and since success in baseball isn’t as reliant on finding a Top Star like the NBA, there is less incentive for teams on the edge between being in and out of playoff contention to tank. So long as the regular season was also shortened a bit, which owners might actually be okay with when paired with expanded playoffs, it’d probably be a great success.
Just returning to let everyone know that I suggested this format back in 2018. I’m a visionary.

No application of the extra-inning runner-on-second rule in the postseason?

Nope. Pretty sure the only new rule for this season that is used in the postseason is the DH for both leagues.

How can a team be 15th in batting average and 1st in bases on balls? These guys can't hit, so we better not pitch to them. :|

My guess would be the hitting coach wants them to swing at anything close to the zone, aiming for contact rather than a hit. Tires out the other team's pitcher, gives you a better chance at a walk, and if you accidentally make too much contact, results in an infield fly or weak ass grounder most of the time.  But I say that without looking up any stats like BABIP or if their K rate has dropped (or increased?) significantly from years past.
