2020 MLB Playoffs
« Topic Start: September 16, 2020, 09:29:01 AM »
Details: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mlb-announces-altered-2020-postseason-format/

biggest change is no off-days, meaning you won't see a scenario like we used last year in which a #3 starter is pitching in relief in multiple games:

Quote
For this year — and presumably this year only — the divisional and championship rounds will be played without off days. The divisional round will take place over five consecutive days, followed by a day off, followed by as many as seven consecutive days of championship series play.

biggest change is no off-days, meaning...

So if your starters can’t go deep into their games then the pen will not have a day off to rest.

Will the rosters stay expanded?

I imagine so, and may grow to 29 or 30 to enable adding extra relievers.

kind of cool that you have to use your full rotation.  I'm sure  Austin Voth is psyched for a start.

Oh, wait.

Oh, wait.

I can't wait for the board to blow up after Gio Gonzales goes 7 IP with 1 ER and 9Ks.

White Sox clinch a playoff spot, winning 2 out of their last three with the following starters against the Indians:  Dunning, Giolito, Lopez.

Yeah, that's a lot of Adam Eaton right there.

That’s Spanky to you.  The way he hit down the stretch and in the post season last year was priceless.

With the Nats sweep of the Phillies today, Philly falls behind Cincy and Milwaukee for the last two WC spots, and the Cubs clinch a spot.

Manfred's new playoff arrangements give the .500-ish Astros a free pass in.

And just for anyone who hasn't followed it:  Bregman, Correa, and Altuve are all mysteriously missing 200 points from their OPSes.  Can't imagine any reason three star hitters would all go off a cliff at the same time.  Nope, never.  Nothing occurs to me.  Anyone got any ideas?

With the amount of fear shrinkage caused by knowing they wouldn't have that luxury, something is a small size, certainly.

history would suggest they are a lock to win the WS.

Ironically they clinched at yankee stadium.

Padres rotation looking shaky - Clevinger and Lamet both injured now.  Lamet just left in the middle of an at bat without even trying to continue.

The Reds are in also.  They are in and St. Louis is technically not in yet even though they are in second and Cincinnati in the first wild card spot.  Not clear if the Cards will have to make up two games against Detroit Monday.

They should have to.  Teams should not get the benefit of not playing games when time exists to play them.

Agree. But I think if they and the Reds are both in, I don’t think they will play those games to decide positioning.  Of course the Cards will be the team that didn’t have to make up as many games.  Figures.

Yeah but they played their unplayed games the right way, the Cardinal Way.

Even the ones they didn’t play.  Can’t argue with the Cards way.  Drink.

good for your grandson!  Good to see you back!  I'll be really curious to see if a few years of success can build a fanbase. Until Fernandez died, I thought they were close.  Don't tell your grandson about your Nats fandom
