Death to bunting? NL & DH (breakout from Kieboom)
« Topic Start: September 12, 2020, 09:24:53 AM »
Bunting is becoming a lost art  (sacrifice bunting, not bunting for a hit, nor squeeze) and will become extinct if the NL adopts the DH, unless they continue this runner on second rule.  Because I really think that the only appropriate time for a sac bunt is with a runner on second, nobody out, tie game in bottom of last or an extra inning.   So bunting in that situation last night (in two consecutive innings) seems appropriate to me (except for the fact that nobody knows how to sacrifice bunt anymore.  What bothers me so much is that one of those instances the batter bunted with two strikes.  That's a Cardinal Sin in my book.

Pitchers need to bunt (assuming we don't continue with the DH next season).  Other than that, yes, just don't bunt.

... and I'm also assuming they won't continue with the runner on second beyond next season.  But even  that probably isn't sufficient reason to mandate that all batters learn to bunt (though it's a good strategy, for those who know how to.)

I think it's safe to say that the DH is with us for good.

Never thought I'd say this: I don't mind it.

That’s the way I feel also.  Don’t miss pitchers bunting and trying to hit.

Same here. But it’s still not real baseball :)

I hate it.  Am not at all enjoying it.  On the other hand, never thought I'd say this:  I'm enjoying the runner at second. I do hope they don't adopt it though.
