At the end of the day, this season we've subtracted one of our two best hitters and one of our two best pitchers. We're about where we should be. This team has the heart and fight to make a run if we get some breaks and our back-end rotation guys can step up, but this will likely turn out to be a transition year where our young guys develop and Strasburg heals. With a healthy big 3 pitchers next year, and continued growth from Garcia and Kieboom, we'll be in contention mode again. But Kieboom's current stagnation is concerning. Rendon's departure stings more than we expected due to that stagnation and Strasburg's injury. But the real benefit of Rendon's departure is that it will allow us the flexibility to resign our franchise guys - Soto, Turner - and maybe even add a FA piece. As for this year, we need to take 2 of the next 3 to finish this series, or it will functionally be curtains for this season.
