It's fair to say that Rizzo and the Nats were out-maneuvered at this deadline. Philliies pick up 3 relievers in a bit over a week, Mets bring in Todd Frazier, Miguel Castro, and Robinson Chirinos to address gaps, and the Marlins get the best player available in Starling Marte. Does anyone think our chance at the post-season is better now than it was a day ago? Brock Holt was the only move. If you think the Nats are in worse position than they were going into the deadline, then doesn't it make even less sense to have not moved expiring contracts? Most of the talent at the deadline moved into the NL, not out from it, so even if he has confidence in his players, the job of making the playoffs is certainly harder now than it was a week ago (before our latest slump).
