No idea who wants our clutter, but Rizzo is a fool if he doesn't trade them.
A hard tank, moving Kendrick, Studzuki, Gomes, Cabrera is really the right move.

We have to be sellers at this point.  Who even cares if we rally in this stupid season?  We will still celebrate 2019 WS Championship when fans return as if it just happened.

If we can get a decent return, gotta make a move.  Kendrick, Cabrera, Harrison, Gomes, Suzuki, Eaton, Sanchez (wishful thinking).........

Depends on what you mean by decent return. But something is better than nothing.

We’ve  got one more year of Max. Why wouldn’t we deal him for the right return?

The assumption is that next season's team might be a playoff team with Strasburg back, etc.  If you're trading Scherzer, you're punting next season.  If that was ever a consideration, (1) Strasburg shouldn't have been re-signed last winter and (2) you should be eating money if needed to move anyone you can who doesn't have at least 2 more years of team control after 2020 in order to get better prospects, if possible - so Eaton, Sanchez, Hudson, Gomes, Suzuki, Cabrera.

After that final year he gets 7 more years of deferred salary.

They have to pay that either way. Not clear how that impacts a trade decision?

Doesn't matter, because if it's not the Nats it'd be negotiated for them to take most of it anyway.

I would assume money deferred from this year so far and prior years would be paid by the Nats.  The new team would be on the hook for next year.

Sounds reasonable but since we’re talking insane money who knows.

The problem with trading Scherzer is your stuck with Strasburg. If we're in this position at the deadline next year, I vs see it. But trading Max is punting next season. You're still stuck with the deferred money

The deferred money is a sunk cost. If they could get a good return it would make sense. Unlikely they would as he is clearly diminished.

Scherzer is owed 35 million next season. That alone makes him have low trade value. Nats are in the hook for the deferred money. You're not getting a whole lot back for him and trading him results in a pretty massive rebuild.

If you're going to trade Scherzer, you may as well trade Turner and hope Stras is still somewhat productive in 2023.

Yea, maybe trade him next year.
