He's 22 in his first big league season. No need to panic yet.
Right, keep him up and let him hit, unless the coaches notice him developing bad habits.

I'm guessing this means Rizzo honestly believes this team can win.

Hopefully this doesn't completely nuke his confidence.

I guess that puts Cabrera back at 3rd for the time being?

I'm not really sure why Wilfer Difo is still here.

oh, that's easy.  He can run a little, field multiple positions, and there's no harm to his development by having him sit on the bench.

With Kieboom, he has to play, so, with the log jam among the olds (Cabrera, Thames, and Kendrick), there was no way to shuffle 3B/1B/DH without one of those 4 on the pine.  They kept the guys who are playing better up for now.  It's that, or move one of those guys.

I guess I re-open the prospect thread:

https://www.masnsports.com/nationals-pastime/2020/08/slumping-kieboom-demoted-doolittle-activated-off-il.html

From the article:

"Ironically, the Nationals’ biggest area of concern with Kieboom - his defense - wasn’t a problem. After making several strong plays at third base and several more when positioned near second base during infield shifts, Kieboom actually rated as the majors’ second-best third baseman in Defensive Runs Saved, trailing only multi-Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado."

So that's something. Of course, the elephant in the room is Rendon's MVP form in LA - granted, for a team scuffling worse than the Nats - coupled with Strasburg's season ending injury. As several have said, he's 22. Let's hope his time back on the farm is fruitful, and he comes back ready to mash. But for the Nats to pull the plug is a strong statement.

the two first pitch hit into DPs seems to have been the culprit.  Rizzo needed to make a statement and Kieboom was the first guy over into the water.

I think he's just struggling and they don't want to ruin his confidence and risk longer term damage.  Let him work it out at triple AAA and come back and give it another try.  I'd feel a lot more nervous if he were 24 instead of 22.

Kieboom completely fails the look test. Ugly girlfriend, no confidence, etc.

Luis Garcia looks great in jeans though. He's a stud.

Gloria Vanderbilt jeans I might add

Part of the issue is that there isn't AAA right now.  The best you've got is alternate site intrasquad, and the pitchers the Nats have there aren't even AAA quality.

I don't see how demoting him doesnt ruin his confidence. Could have just as easily benched him for a few games and let him work in the cages.

Trade bait?  https://twitter.com/byrobertmurray/status/1299061951453106182?s=21

With Castro here for another year and Garcia’s emergence, Kieboom is expendable and teams are noticing.

Seems like selling low. But given that he's still 22, played strong MLB defense, and produced well in his last minor league stop, he certainly still has value. I'm fine with them entertaining it. How the next few days play out may determine the direction of these conversations. Tonight's game, if played, was a must-win.

He hits into double plays all the time. That’s even worse than striking out.  :mg:

With Zimmerman sitting out the season, -someone- on the team had to step up and fill the GIDP void. Kieboom was just trying to be helpful.

Since Kieboom was sent down, Asdrubel Cabrera has hit .111/.219/.111

Bring Kieboom back up and let him play.

Cabrera is what his career is. Expecting him to repeat last season was silly.

The time has come to commit to Kieboom. You moved him to third. He worked to improve there. You sent him down to correct a swing issue and he's had time to do it. He's either a part of the future, or he's not. And we need to find out now.
