Sample size of 1, but tonight was encouraging. Fedde was damn good through the first three innings. The relievers after him all did pretty well.

Last year, this would have been a game the Nats would have lost or had to brought in Doolittle, because the pen would have squandered the lead

I was thinking the same thing.  Encouraging.

Finnegan looks really promising.

Whenever I hear someone named Finnegan I think of the old broadcaster Les Keiter.  I know VARK will remember him as "The General" on the local evening sportscasts in Hawaii.  I still have no idea the origin of the phrase.  Maybe luck of the Irish?

Seated in the Palestra's broadcasting nest, high above the arena's
floor, Mr. Keiter, for example, would call... A shot that bounced in, then
out, was an "in-again-out-again-Finnegan."

I really think Fedde has found his groove as a reliever. His pitch mix is simplified. His fastball is sitting g 94-96 with good movement.

This team has lacked a Craig Stammen type guy for a while. Dude who can go a couple non-high leverage innings. Fedde might be that guy.

Be nice if one of our first round pitchers would pan put for us

Harris and Doolittle not impressive in their first outing

Will Harris. Not good.

Its a curse with relievers in DC. 9 out of 10 guys who were dominant come here and stink. Then they leave after a year and become dominant again.

Doolittle read a lot of books during his stay-at-home.  Obviously didn't read the one about not walking the lead off batter.

Still down a lot. You want him 94 to be effective.

I see no reason to ever sign relievers who don’t sit 95-99 nowadays.   Will Harris has terrible stuff.   I’m not saying sign every Hrod, but unless it is a lefty, I don’t want a reliever throwing 90-92 up there

Not saying they all do. R Harper looked good with junk. But Doo lives off his fastball when he is sound. He needs it

Harris  struggling early in the season. Doolittle throwing 88. Not ideal.

Yet again pitchers we let leave pitch well.

Tanner Roark and AJ Cole do it to us this year.

And guys like Zimmermann and Detwiler have been awful.

It is a mixed bag. I can't think of one guy who has turned into a big performer that surprised me.

You predicted Treinen was going to be an elite closer for a season?

I wasn't shocked Treinen took off. He has great stuff and his 2016 season was great, he was the go to arm in high leverage situations with runners on base. He had a rocky 2017, but his stuff was still there. He was just off. There is a reason the A's were willing to flip Doolittle and Madson for him.

Kind of like when Felipe Rivero took off for the Pirates. I was a bit surprise he was that good for them, but we knew he had ability and there is a reason he was part of a trade that brought back Mark Melancon.

I know this is the wrong thread for this post, but during yesterday’s game, I noticed a female camera person in the first base side stands, all by herself.  What was weird to me was that she had a mask on.  Why in the world would anyone wear a mask when the closet person to them is over 100 feet away?

Any thoughts on this?

Saw her also. Easier to just keep it on in case someone comes by so she doesn’t have to put down the camera to put it back on?

Are there less cameras this year?   It seems some of the TV replays and replay challenges don't have nearly the angles we're used to.

Thankfully so, since I think Stevenson was out at second base, but the lesser number of cameras came to our rescue.

This seems like a pretty likely explanation. I am not sure why masks are so awful for some folks. It's way too many people to write it off as folks being ignorant or paranoid. I have to think that for a decent chunk of people, they are just absolutely intolerable. For me, once it's on and in place, the only time I notice it is if my glasses steam up past the bifocal part to my distance vision area. That's pretty rare and pinching the mask at the bridge of my nose fixes it.
