so she's saying the two other positives were before this week, those were likely Elias and Suero.

I got some clarification: This doesn’t mean players who were on the field yesterday. The mayor’s chief of staff says the other positive tests were before this week.

Yes
OTH, the players might be more likely to contract and spread the virus if there was no season, with all of the testing and many other precautions in place.
For example, Soto probably got it from activities outside baseball, so it would not have been detected so quickly.

If all players on both teams that are at the game have tested negative why are some wearing masks?

As Joaquin Andujar once said about baseball, covid infection can be summed up in one word, youneverknow

Washington #Nats star Juan Soto is getting increasingly frustrated, his teammates say. He has reportedly tested negative six times_three by MLB and three by the team_but has not had back-to-back negative tests, keeping him out of action.

so he's tested positive an equal number of times?

Yea, that quote is actually concerning. Thats probably a typing/editing error, but that would mean he had more than just 1 positive test the way it reads.

Apparently he has had conflicting results. His latest reported negatives were from instant tests. Caution is warranted because false negatives are more frequent than false positives and the instant tests are generally more inaccurate than lab tests.

And that makes no sense as noted in the comments there.

Davey Martinez says the Nationals have received the second required official negative test for Juan Soto. They are now waiting for MLB and D.C. to clear him to return.

Juan Soto has not had any positive tests since the original one on July 23, #Nats manager Davey Martinez says. Still, he has not been cleared by #MLB protocols to play. MLB's tests also reveal there has been no positive tests by any team besides the #Marlins since last Thursday.

I’m shocked!

Rizzo was on the Junkies this morning defending the MLB test strategy. He clearly took to heart the counseling they gave him a few weeks ago!

Damn. I'm happy for any baseball over no baseball, but this will be such a sloppy season.

The district government won’t allow him to play.  And what is sad is it is almost a 100 Percent chance that his positive test was a false positive.

Soto activated, Andrew Stevenson heading to F-Burg.  Soto available to pinch hit tonight.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/08/02/juan-soto-believes-he-received-false-positive-result-he-wants-people-know-that/

Quote
Soto said he believes he didn’t have the coronavirus, despite learning of his positive result Opening Day. He never showed symptoms. He did three rapid-result antigen tests July 23, and each came back negative. None of his teammates tested positive in the following days. He then received back-to-back lab-confirmed negatives through MLB, which cleared him to play under its protocols.

Those are a few reasons Soto is sure this all started with a false positive. The other is that he has been cautious and smart away from the park, according to Soto and teammates. Those close to Soto say he was frustrated by how the public could perceive his positive test result. He didn’t want to be seen as reckless or immature, contracting the virus at a bar or restaurant in the hours between games. He was hellbent on clearing his name, regardless of whether anyone was judging him.

...

Once MLB and the players’ union agreed to health and safety protocols in June, an obvious flaw was highlighted. There were 113 pages of guidelines, rule changes and directions for such things as how to safely go to the bathroom on planes. But rules for conduct away from club facility’s were thin, murky and framed as strong suggestions.

Does anyone know if the doctor responsible for testing Soto has ties to Houston?
