A prep prospect from Florida, Infante rose his stock this spring by making improvements across the board to his already well-rounded skill set. While he lacks a standout tool, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Infante has showcased average to above average power and speed, but his ability to consistently make contact remains more of a concern. Infante grades out well enough as a defender to stick in the infield, though he may lack the range to be an everyday shortstop and could ultimately settle at second or third base. The Nationals will have to pry him away from a commitment to Miami in order to sign him.

At Monsignor Pace he hit .481 with four doubles, one home run, and six RBIs this season. As a junior he hit .476 with two doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 18 RBIs.

Playing SS in the FCL - .231/.328/.404 in 61 PA. 6 XB shows up in that high SLG. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

If he keeps hitting, will be interesting to see if he or House makes it to Wilmington first.

23 Ks in 73 PAs, OBP of .315, slightly older than the league at Fredericksburg. Playing 3rd but just 24 chances so far.  .900 OPS is good.

This is a surprise. In my preseason Nationals Top 50 prospects, Infante is a Tier 4 player, but he’s starting the season showing more power than he did all of last year. He’s gone deep three times, stolen three bases, has lowered his swinging strike rate, and has increased his line drive rate. Like House, the strikeout rate is high at 34%, but Infante also walks at a solid 12%.

It’s an incredibly small sample size, but it looks as if Infante is attempting to pull the pull ball more. The percentage of batted balls hitting his pull direction is 62%, up from 49% last year. Pulling the ball is excellent for power output, but it will hurt his ability to make contact. Again, these are incredibly small sample sizes we’re dealing with. However, if Infante can keep the strikeouts in check and continue to hit for power his offensive ceiling gets much higher.

Sammy Infante: The 20-year-old infielder leads the low-A Carolina League with 12 homers through 35 games. The next closest players entered Tuesday with seven. And while his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame doesn’t scream power, his peripheral statistics suggest this pop isn’t a total mirage. Infante has also found a defensive home in the early going, playing third while top prospect Brady House fills shortstop for Fredericksburg.

Baseball Ref lists Trea Turner as 6-2 and 186 pounds, so even if Infante's frame "doesn't scream power", it could be there.

Of course, nobody is "the next Trea Turner".

Still young. Going to be a big prospect by end of the year.

If he is still raking in a couple weeks, maybe time to consider moving him up to Wilmington? Jordy Barley is really struggling, so SS isn't blocked.

just a guess - he's a 3rd baseman or maybe a 2d baseman now.  Maybe it's just House that's keeping him off SS, but the Dougherty note re: "defensive home" suggests to me it's a long term move.

off to a solid start: .320 / .370 / .480 with 3 SBs and a home run in his first 25 ABs.  He fell off the top-30 milb prospect list after a pretty poor showing last year in Fredricksburg but hopefully he's turning things around this year. He's only 21.
