had an off outing a week ago - 3 IP, 3 ER, 4 hits, 1 HR, 2 BBs, 2 Ks. I'm guessing something was off and didn't recover over the week.

Is apparently on the 60-day IL again. Didn't pitch in July at all.

Turns 26 next year, add him to the long list of Rizzo's high draft pitching busts.

Guys get hurt, it happens.  Doesn't seem like there's much promise in TOS.

Sure, because pitchers never get hurt, and TOS is nothing.

well, I expect zero from him at this point. I have stopped thinking that thoracic outlet surgery works for pitchers. Anything out of Henry is gravy.

[Andrew Golden] Just talked to Cole Henry, who said he’ll be pitching out of the bullpen in a long-relief role now. He and the organization think it’ll keep him healthy after he missed most of 2024 with a lat strain. Spent most of his offseason working on pitching out of the stretch.

I'm OK with this. Just get him healthy and pitching regularly. It's not too tough to switch back to starting from multi-inning relief. Getting anything out of Henry at this point is a plus.

Cole Henry, a 2020 second-round draft pick, will transition from a starter to a multi-inning reliever. The Nationals informed the righty of the change during the first few days of spring training, but Henry thought it might happen. He spent the offseason pitching primarily out of the stretch to get comfortable.

Henry, a 25-year-old who has a 3.30 ERA in 42 career minor league appearances (34 starts), said the goal is to pitch 60 innings as a reliever this year. He and the organization believe the decision will keep him healthy. Henry had thoracic outlet surgery in August 2022 and made just 14 appearances in 2023 as he managed his workload. Last season, a lat strain limited him to eight appearances between Class AA Harrisburg and high Class A Wilmington.

The goal is 60 innings, the reality will be far lower than that.   He's thrown a total of 80 milb innnings across the last three seasons and has walked 41 batters during that time.  It's not clear he can pitch at MLB for any number of innings whether as a starter or reliever.

not saying he can walk into mlb right now. But if the move to the bullpen works and he can pitch 60 innings, that's good.

at this point i'd be happy seeing any level of contribution after what he's been through.

Yes.

About the only cost to the franchise for trying to get something out of this one-time well-regarded arm is the 40 man slot he holds when he's not on the 60 day IL. That's pretty cheap if he ends up like Garrett Whitlock. On NYYFF.NET, there were probably members saying he was a wasted pick, especially since they had a bunch of studs in need of roster slots
