moved the doolittle discussion to the 2020 Bullpen thread.  It really isn't a blow it up topic since we are not talking about trading him for value.

Kind of cool to see the youth movement right now. MASN guys noting that half our lineup last night was < 23 (Robles is the old guy).

We haven't had a good tank for a while. The races for Strasburg and Harper were insane down the wire. Manny Acta is a true hero for his work in 2008 and his work in 2009 putting the team is such a hole that Jim Riggleman couldn't dig out of it by realizing we'd be a better team with Dunn at first and taking infield a couple times a month.

maybe last year was our version of The Last Dance.  It's remarkable that we've made a transition to essentially a brand new core this year with Kieboom, Garcia, Soto, Robles, and Turner. Unfortunately the new starters aren't holding their own, and the kids still have lots of room for improvement.

Little to no production from 1B and C and RF is killing the lineup.

I'd include CF, 2nd and 3rd in there as well.

It took 4 years from there to a competitive team. Rizzo isnt going to survive that. By then you're looking at a Soto impending free agency.

The Nats have very little to "blow it uo" with this year. Trea Turner is about it. Maybe Robles if you feel like selling low.

catching has been fine: .255 / .298 / .353 for Suzuki, .261 / .306 / .478 for Gomes.  Eaton over his last 10: .286 / .348 / .429

Overall, the issue isn't offense as much as it is starting pitching.  When your rotation ERAs are 4.31, 3.99, 6.48, 6.65, and 10.80, you aren't going to win very many games.

Right now Fedde's 2.55 leads the rotation.

They are slightly above average in runs scored per game. And slightly below average in runs given up.  Maybe they can be a .500 team.

Trade Corbin at the deadline --> extend Soto this off-season
No one is taking Corbin. He has negative value. Hes the third least valuable player on this team in trade value.

Not sure I'd go that far. You could ship out every mid-level veteran like Kendrick, Cabrera, and Gomes then come back next year with a top 3 of Sherzer, Corbin, Strasburg with a free agent cleanup hitter behind Soto and you could sell me on that team being a contender.

This feels more like the Golden State Warriors one season rebuild then a complete teardown of the franchise.

100%. You don't go from being the top free agent pitcher on the market 2 years ago to being on par with Dakota Bacus especially after the post season he had last year.

No, you go to no value when you are still owed over 100 million at age 30 or older. No one is giving you crap for Corbin, Strasburg, or Scherzer. That's a straight salary dump.

We would probably hope to get a Bacus-type prospect back in return.
