Opening Day Starter
« Topic Start: June 05, 2020, 05:20:18 PM »
Putting this out there for something to talk about other than riots and pandemics.  Is it obvious that Strasburg earned the opening day start for his playoff/WS performance, or is this still debatable?  Or does it even matter who would start?

My vote is Strasburg, I think he's arguably the best pitcher in the NL now with Cole's departure.

I want Strasburg, but I don’t care, both are great

If this team continues its practice of rewarding performance, then it has to be Stras.

Max will be the ODS.  He was all lined up before the pandemic.

in a surprise move, the Nats opening day starter will be Joe Ross based on his early season performance in Strat O Matic

What they've been doing is one gets the opener if it is on the road, the other gets the home opener.  Now, I don't know how it will line up.

What is this?

Stras isnt the best pitcher on the team, let alone in the NL :lmao:

Did I go into a coma where Jacob deGrom stopped being the best pitcher in the NL? Cole left the NL three years ago and he wasnt the best in baseball until the Stros fixed him.

So yeah, barring injury, it's definitely Scherzer

today in Strat 0 Matic Degrom pitched 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, had 0 walks, and struck out 12 Nats as the mets beat the Nats 9-3. Degrom is 6-5 with an ERA of 3.12 and 121 K's.

This goes way back when Stras was the OD starter for years and Zimmermann was clearly better at that time. I think that was a factor in Zimmermann leaving for FA.

Not the case - JZ left because he didn't like DC

No.  He left because the Tigers offered him more years and more money.  It's always the $.

I said it was a factor. I never assigned a percentage when he left and didn’t yesterday. I just believe he felt disrespected.

Disrespected as shown by not offering him the $ he wanted.  If they had matched or exceeded the Tigers he would have felt the love.  Rizzo is apparently a genius.

Didn't he want to be closer to Minnesota so he could fish his home waters?

He's from a village in North-Central Wisconsin...Auburndale...and I don't recall him ever saying that he wanted to be closer to home...I think that was another storyline that developed here on WNFF...

The Nats really dodged a bullet on that one...

He was my favorite nat at the time and I was pissed they didn't try harder to resign him, but they were correct, and it was immediately obvious. The lesson is that you have to trust Rizzo when medicals are involved, they seem to usually make the shrewd decision
