each franchise's recent top villain

https://www.mlb.com/news/players-who-fans-love-to-hate

I loved the linked article and think for the most part, it gets things right about the recent opposing player each team's fan base loves to hate.

For the NL Eaat, it says it is Bruce Whoreper or something like that for the Barves, the fishies, and the World Champ's fans.

Other players on mutliple fan base's s-list include A-Rod (Boston and Seattle) and Joey Bats (Os and Rangers).  A couple of other great nameas on this list include AJ Pierzynski, Pedro, and Chase Utley.

So, for the Nats, do we agree it is Royce/  who would be the rest of the top3 or top 5, if you arer full of hate.  No umps.

How about some other recent major hatables?  This can be jerks, folks who spurned teams for FA, or guys who killed a team or that fans particularly enjoyed seeing fail.

I'd say for the Nats that somehow Chipper and Utley would be there for guys who never played for us.

Freeman has to make the nats list. Whoever the current manager is is usually the most hated here

From the Nats fan perspective: Cole Hamels and Pete Kozma would be on any list.   Also Yusmeiro Petit simply because of how he pitched against us in the 2014 NLDS and how awful he was pitching for us afterwards.

Mark Teixiera as someone who spurned us?

Stan Kasten?

I'm going to guess the Astros are going to be more hated by Yankees fans than by Nats fans.  We beat them. :)

I hate Mark Teixeira for many other reasons besides not signing here.

Stan Kasten is a good one. Total POS.

Freeman has to make the nats list.

I try to avoid hating a guy just because he's good. Freeman is a genuinely good guy.

Pujols is too, but you hated to see him come up for about 15 years.

I’m sure there are guys viewed as jerks who are good guys and guys viewed as good guys who are jerks- I prefer to just hate based on performance

Harper wouldn't even be in my top 10.  He left as a free agent after generally playing hard and well while he was here.  Plus he had to watch the WS.  I reserve my ire for guys who actually hurt the team.  Here's ten in no particular order, mostly weighted toward recent years because for 2005-2011 it was hard to dislike anything but some of the worst offenders.

For specific onfield heartbreak, nothing personal:

Pete Kozma
Daniel Descalso

For being jerks and sucking:

Papelbon (also an jerk as an opponent)
Hunter Strickland (same)
Felipe Lopez
Matt Williams

For apathy and sucking:

Austin Kearns
Lastings Milledge
Rafael Soriano

For being whiny and sucking when it mattered (I feel slightly bad about this one, but the dude pretty much flushed two playoff seasons down the toilet):

Storen

villain? nah . . . mostly comic relief.

In fact, our comic relief often was the villain (Bruney, Ayala, Storen, Soriano, multiples last year).

Nah, he was just a psycho.  Dude should have stuck with hockey. If you wanted dumb-as-bricks outfielders who were fast but not fast enough to steal first, Nook Logan would be the choice.

Other than Descalso, Kozma, and Strickland, your list of most hated are guys we hate for things they did as Nats.  I think that's against the spirit of the list, which is opponent focused.  That's why Freeman and Chipper need to be on the list, probably Teixeira but not Fielder, and maybe Zack Greinke for spurning the Nats years ago and then nearly killing us in the WS.  Khalil Greene is a good one.

I can't remember the difference between Nook and Nyjer.  They both sucked.

Some seem to be a little of both. It seems like every time I saw Jose Bautista in an interview or other off-field context, he came across as a nice, soft-spoken, even somewhat shy kind of guy. Put him on the field, and it was a 180-degree personality shift. That confrontation with Rougned Odor remains a classic, though.

I'm surprised I forgot about him too, as he is pretty high on my list.

I also find Rick Porcello to be a bit of a punk. If you're going to throw at someone intentionally, you get one shot. If you miss, too bad. That one was especially bad because while Manny Machado can also be a punk, even Pedroia acknowledged that the slide and spiking was not intentional, so multiple attempts to retaliate are beyond the acceptable self-policing of the game.

For me, Brian McCann has to make the list.

Amplified by his presence in the trash can thumping lineup of 2017, which crosses more into the realm of franchise villainy than someone merely being good against another team

Storen blew it but wasn't a jerk or lazy. Not on my list.

But Jose Tabata sure is for intentionally ruining Max's perfect game by leaning into the pitch.
