Relatively speaking, I'd think football would be the easiest sport for the disease to spread due to line play and running.  Baseball might be the cleanest.  Fielders can hand sanitize after plays if  they throw.  Catchers have some exposure, and probably 1st basemen due to pickoffs and holding runners.  I can't see pitchers sanitizing between throws, either.

I can; if you let them use a liquid sanitizer, I'd think they'd be eager

I'm sure Jon Lester will have a gob of 70% alcohol with Aloe goo on his glove, just in case somebody sneezes.

Zimm expressed concern about trying to hold a runner on first, and the potential for close contact.  Would they make batters and fielders wear masks?

As the NBA gets ready to start up in Orlando, Covid-19 cases are exploding in Florida and the Orlando area, ~15% of new cases require hospitalization.  This isn't going to go well.

So today, we have:

  • Phillies shut down due to positive test(s).
  • So do Blue Jays.
  • So do Tampa Bay Lightning.
  • Auston Matthews reportedly tested positive and is isolated at home in Arizona.
  • A PGA Tour player tested positive at this week's tournament.
  • Earlier this week I believe we heard two Dallas Cowboys players tested positive, and I believe I saw a report that a DC United player tested positive.

So how exactly do they think any of the team sports are going to manage to come back?

The premier league is doing fine, the Bundesliga is doing fine, Seria A is doing fine, la liga is doing fine, baseball is working in South Kora, Japan and Taiwan- it can be done, whether or not a North American League can pull it off is another matter

A lot of those athletes from North American sports are playing or training in FLA, AZ, and TX, which are the 3 of the areas with the most rapid increase.  These aren't examples of being kept in a bubble, which the NBA says it'll try.  The Euros are less likely to come into community contact.  And, of course, we are not yet ruled by Jacinda Ardern so we cannot go freely around like they can in New Zealand.

More than 8 million people have contracted Covid-19 around the world and 440,000 people have died from the virus.

Hey...I have a great idea...let's play sports!

2 new cases in NZ today.
were those the ones brought back in from England or were they ones who were contact traced and detected?  The idea of contact tracing is you find them before community spread and isolate.

They had contact with something like 200 or 300 other people...
