Greatest Nats Team by Year
« Topic Start: April 28, 2020, 10:31:23 AM »
Zuck created his list of the all-time Nats roster, with one caveat, you must pick one player from each year and IF/OF positions only once.

https://www.masnsports.com/nationals-pastime/2020/04/an-all-time-nationals-roster-with-a-twist.html

Here's what he came up with:

C Wilson Ramos (2016)
1B Dimitri Young (2007)
2B Daniel Murphy (2017)
SS Cristian Guzman (2008)
3B Ryan Zimmerman (2009)
LF Alfonso Soriano (2006)
CF Denard Span (2014)
RF Bryce Harper (2015)
SP: Stephen Strasburg (2010)
SP: Max Scherzer (2018)
SP: Jordan Zimmerman (2013)
SP: Patrick Corbin (2019)
SP: Gio Gonzalez (2012)
RP: Chad Cordero (2005)
RP: Tyler Clippard (2011)

He noted how tough it was to leave Rendon off, but if you use Rendon's 2019 year, then you have to use Zimmerman's 2017 year at 1B, which means maybe picking Guzman's 2007 year (.328 / .380 / .466) and then a whole cascade of additional moves.

I tried playing around with this, but it's almost impossible to change anything thanks to CF being an unending morass and the '07 team being so pitiful.  Otherwise, Jordan Zimmermann's 2014 and any one of a few different 1B seasons (Nick the Stick's 2006, LaRoche's 2012 or 2014, Zman's 2017) would belong here.

It's pretty remarkable, in a bad way, that Brad Wilkerson (2005) and Willie Harris (2009) probably had the best offensive seasons at CF after Span in 2014.
