Lorenzo Cain, Isan Diaz (Marlins 2B), and Francisco Liriano (FA) all opt-out for 2020.  The Athletic reports that Cespedes opted out because his mother is ill.

I had to chuckle at the notion of a guy without a contract "opting out" of something he wasn't a part of anyway.  I realize it's not that simple and that Liriano could have gotten a contract if he wanted one, but it's still amusing.

13 (7 players) members of Cards organization test positive. 4 game series with Tigers postponed.

Field of Dreams game cancelled. Per Rosenthal. Not due to COVID, but other logistical issues.

Better to do that with fans in the stands anyway...

The odd thing with this game, as it was scheduled, is that the players on the field wouldn't be able to see anyone in the stands.

I think it could cost Ross a lot. He had a rotation spot he's losing and he is another year from FA. Several millions potentially flushed

I've given this a lot of thought.  There is a dearth of decent starting pitching in MLB.  I think he'll be in high demand...somewhere...

we seem to be getting mad a players who are complying with whatever local rules are in effect. There is no bubble, if you're a player why not just follow state and local guidelines? If fans want to be mad as someone, but made at the state and local leaders letting strip clubs and casinos stay open

Agreed. It’s interesting that people blame players for behavior that they aren’t willing to give up themselves. As if MLB players have some obligation to us to isolate so they can give us baseball.
Pretty typical of how we see the players typically though. The fact that Manfred and MLB are pushing the “it’s the player’s fault” narrative and not the “we are trying to stage a baseball season in 28 different cities during the park of an active pandemic” narrative, probably tells us all we need to know.

Aren't there MLB guidelines that the players are supposed to follow?

It's interesting listening to PGA players and their caddies talk, they all sound like they are being very cautious as they want to avoid missing a couple weeks.   Golf is every man for himself and their living depends on playing tournaments.

You'd think though, that there would be some notion of avoiding higher risk activities for the sake of not hurting your team.   Maybe if the games were forfeited and players docked pay if they catch the disease by breaking an agreed upon protocol, there would be better compliance.

Most of us like to think of we were making that much money we could make some sacrifices for a few months. May or may not be true.

Why?
Because Canada has half the deaths and a quarter of the cases compared to the US per capita.
This is why Toronto didn't want to host American teams and the NHL has their bubble in Canada.
(Though Canada is not doing all that great, except compared to the US, which has less than 5% of the world's population and about a quarter of the cases and deaths.)

Lengthy article. Says they are not supposed to go out to restaurants. So why would anyone assume strip joints or casinos were ok? They are not even allowed in the hotel bar. The players on the Marlins and Cards messed up. Maybe others did also. Time for them to follow the rules they agreed to.

well, I thought MLB has guidelines for players that basically say home/ hotel room, transit to park, play and that is it. These guys are breaking the guidelines, I think.  Extreme social distancing for the season.  It's why MLB and MLBPA thought they could avoid a bubble.

Very difficult to control any 1000 or so people, many of whom may feel entitled, young and invincible, or that the danger is exaggerated. All it takes is one - and there are probably a lot more than one.

He's like 50, right? Too bad it wasn't a lower risk player.
