I'm really surprised that more players haven't opted out at this point...
I mean you get free tests. Good deal.

Not to make this political, but do you think it’s due to political leanings of most players? I think it’s part of the reason. We have already had more NFL players opt out i think.  Although I think you’re probably more likely to catch it in football.

I'd be more inclined to think it's financial for a lot of them. That, and the general belief the under 40 crowd have that they are invulnerable.

I think it's the money.  Zim had so little on the line this year that it was easy for him.  Ross too for that matter, other than losing a year of service.

Who are the big dollar cats that have opted out?  Are there any?

Imagine a contagious virus spreading around. Hope they had a good time at the casino.

Everyone is a winner.

Rod Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez out for the year due to Covid-19 related heart inflammation
Maybe Cespedes read about 27 yr old Eduardo. Myocarditis, after Covid, is not good.

Right about Zim.

I'm not sure Joe Ross can afford an idle year.  He needs reps.  Expectations will be very low for him in 2021.  I'd like to think he could pick up where he left off -- but who knows where he left off?

Ross had perhaps the most competent advice in his corner.  Look at how thorough the NHL is handling things as opposed to MLB:

I think it could cost Ross a lot. He had a rotation spot he's losing and he is another year from FA. Several millions potentially flushed

Not sure what the playoff percentage is for how many games go to OT. I would guess 20 percent.

I can tell you tomorrow up to a few years ago. I have that number somewhere, though it hasn’t been updated for at least three or four years.

I meant to follow up on this and forgot about it. I have a spreadsheet showing NHL playoff overtime stats, but it hasn't been updated in several years. As of 2014, there had been 4,022 NHL playoff games played and 790 of those (19.64%) went to overtime; of those, just under 80% ended in the first overtime, just over 14% ended in the second, 4.43% ended in the third, 1.139% (nine games ever) ended in the fourth, and 0.253% ended in either the fifth or sixth overtime (two games ever have ended in the fifth, two games ever have ended in the sixth).

It would seem notable that the two six-overtime games both took place in the 1930s, when the ice was not resurfaced between periods, but on the other hand both five-overtime games took place since 2000.

Lorenzo Cain, Isan Diaz (Marlins 2B), and Francisco Liriano (FA) all opt-out for 2020.  The Athletic reports that Cespedes opted out because his mother is ill.
