There doesn't have to be wildly opposite camps as you position it above.  That's what is ravishing our country.  It's far left or far right.  The middle gets left wondering what happened to common causes and common sense?  Yes, the Marlins F'd up, and apparently the Cardinals did too, but what about everybody else.

I'm not smarter than you.  I don't know you.  I know I love baseball and I appreciate that they are trying to play, no matter the motives are.  I also understand the stacked odds against successfully pulling it off and the risks involved.  It's imperfect.  It's life.  Play ball.

I didn't read his statement as political, divisive or dismissive. Bluestreak is simply more up to date on COVID stuff than most of the board. I definitely put a lot of stock in his posts regarding the pandemic.  Now, to address the other part of your comment, while again, I don't think that post was an attempt to split people into different camps, I do agree with you that, by and large, there is way, way, way too much division and it looks to be getting worse, rather than better. I suspect the record campaign contributions are something of a factor as to why neither major political party really wants to adopt a moderate, compromise attitude.

I was glad I bought the MLB at bat so I could enjoy the Nats game on my drive today.  Thanks a lot Marlins.

I didn’t mean this to be political. It’s unfortunate that the virus has become political. I try very hard to stick to facts here. I saw an estimate that about 2% of the US population has an active coronavirus infection. Under those conditions, it’s going to be almost impossible to complete a 2 month season without many outbreaks. The baseline level of infection in the community is too high and baseball decided that they wanted their players/coaches to remain in the community.
This will lead to disruptions that, to me, make it not worth doing the season. Shortened games, gimmick rules, wildly unbalanced schedules and games played with inadequate/unqualified personnel make me think that this season will not be legitimate in anyway. The champion will be the team that was the luckiest with tests, or in a community with low baseline infection rates or some other random reason. It won’t be about what team is best at baseball. And I don’t particularly see the point of the season where the primary determinant of success is a non-baseball related thing.
I understand people want baseball. In any form. And that is a reasonable position. But I don’t think I’m the only one who shares my opinion and I am positive that they don’t all agree with my political views.

BS - you're right here.  Many of us have been waiting & waiting & ... And it isn't because of the 2019 World Series, but just that we like baseball.  But the MLB system isn't working.  And since people's health is on the line for something that is not a necessity in life, it is for the beast if MLB cancels the season.

Source on that one?

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1105235/coronavirus-2019ncov-cases-recoveries-deaths-most-affected-countries-worldwide/

There are 2.5 million confirmed active infections ~5 million infections minus 2.5 million confirmed recoveries.

This study:
https://stm.sciencemag.org/content/12/554/eabc1126

Estimated that during the NYC outbreak, about 80 percent of infections went undetected. We are testing more now and NYC density is higher, which is where most cases were, but our overall infection rate is higher now and it’s much more widespread. So if you cut that number to 60 percent (a guess, I admit), that give you over 6 million active infections. Which is about 2 percent. Maybe I’m off by a bit, but it’s certainly well north of 1 percent.

The Mets will slap Cespedes on the wrist and be done with it.

The Barves are surprising everyone this year.  I'm rooting for the Mets to lose because it looks like the Barves are heading for the post season no matter what.  That is, if there is a post season.

It really is a frickin' mess.  And the Nats are getting screwed.  Soto has to sit out for weeks and the Nats have to play without him.  The Marlins have half the team testing positive and don't have to play at all.  MLB is rescheduling other teams' games and letting the Nats slip through the cracks.  Now with the storm approaching it's even more ridiculous. I'm starting to see MLB downplay the recent outbreaks, which are serious.  I agree that it's best to cancel the season.

P.S.  Next up will be the 5-inning tripleheader.

I have zero interest in the Nats winning. I’d prefer them to go 19-31 with 10 unplayed and draft in the top 5 next season. I want the Orioles to win it all and totally freak up their rebuild.

When Yoenis Cespedes didn't show up today, the Mets sent security to his room. They found it empty. He had taken his belongings, just up and left, and through his agent informed the team mid-game that he was opting out, according to Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen.

Another financial boondoggle for the Mutts...and since he reported instead of opting out initially, I'm guessing he'll still be a UFA in 2021?

Question is...who will touch him?

If MLB is deluded, the NCAA is insane.
How are colleges going to play football, and why should they. Apart from the fact that the pro sports are taking a lot of precautions for which money is no object, at least they have the excuse that the players are adults free to choose and they make an extremely good living from it.
