My office had one case and shut down on March 13 and everyone has worked ftom home since then- and I left food in the refrigerator

usually what has been happening at workplaces is that they'll shut for a week or two, monitor/test everyone, and sanitize the place.  I don't think that approach would work for baseball.

If the White House and many states pay no attention to CDC guidelines why should sports teams?
White House staff are all drinking clorox so they're protected. I suppose the players could too.

John Oliver’s segment on reopening sports leagues is really good.

Guys, I talked to someone in the mayor’s office today and this season is probably not going to get permission to be played in Nats Park.  They hope MLB makes the decision for them.

Very very unofficial but...

Also, I talked to someone at DHS earlier in the week who told me there’s basically no way for teams to cross the border into Toronto and not do at least a week of stay-at-home quarantine

Let the Nats home park be our ST spot. Astros will be allowed to play I'm Houston, I'm sure. We'd be closer to the Marlins and Braves...just not the Mets and Phillies. But then again, I bet the Mets  end up based in FL as well.

I still don't see how they run a season.  John Oliver noted about 10,000 people would be involved with baseball operations. There's no way you can isolate players, coaches, media, team / stadium operations, etc. in any effective way.  They can't Covid-19 out of the White House with daily testing of all staff, how can one expect it to be kept out of the club house?

It looks like the NBA and NHL are both moving slowly ahead.  If they restart their seasons and MLB does not they will look really bad.  It's being done in the KBO and Taiwan.  TV and all.  It can be done.  It's also likely we will be in more of a summer lull with the disease.  The NFL may have bigger problems with a fan/winter upswing.

No fans in DC in 2020:

MTPleasant - maybe your connection meant no fans at Nats Park and not no games?  Makes sense.

If an entire NBA team  gets the virus (maybe a player dies), MLB won't look bad.

NBA and NHL only have to sustain this four a couple of months. MLB will have to do it for twice as long.

How do you figure that?  Probably talking a 60 game season followed by playoffs.  So August-November versus August-October for those leagues.  They do have more players which complicates it.  The other leagues are also facing 2020-21 season with no fans almost for sure.

MLB isn't going to play only 60 games. July 4 is the latest they can start and have any credibility. Beyond that, and there's no point.

Does it seem strange that very little attention is paid to the false-negative rate for the coronavirus test — 30% or higher. (That’s for the quick test, but the two-to-three day test isn’t going to be of any use for MLB testing.)  Thus if 100 people all of whom are infected get tested, 30 results will be negative.  Hopefully MLB will instruct players that if they have symptoms, don’t show up.  So it’s only the asymptomatic false-negatives that would be of concern, but 50% of those infected have no symptoms.  So, a 15% rate for asymptomatic false negative.   For a random population of 750, how many will carry the virus at any given time. I don’t know the answer, but 10 seems like a conservative guess. So on a full-schedule day, statistically, one infected player (actually 1.5) will walk into a clubhouse.  They’re talking about testing twice a week, so that player  will have  three days or so to infect  half the clubhouse (and perhaps an opposing teams clubhouse as well).  At some point MLB is going to do the math.  There won’t be a season.

Feel free to check my math, there certainly could be an error here somewhere.

I wonder if this is just the MLB trying because of pressure from the more leveraged owners?

They are not starting July 4.  They don't have an agreement yet and need a month to get ready.

My take...there will be no 2020 MLB season.

I heard a testing dicussion today that mentioned a 45 minute test that is substantially more accurate than the Abott Labs quick test.  That'll be the one MLB may use.

Actually, I think they were talking about using a Utah lab, the same one that does their PED testing.  I heard they anonymously leaked that A-Rod and Big Papi have Covid.

Unfortunately I think you are correct.  Too many moving parts and too much greed all around. Is the players agreement up after 2020 or 2021?

The current CBA expires after the 2021 season...

I agree. This is about money and bargaining for the next CBA. Owners don't want take the financial hit for paying the players. Players don't want to take another pay cut.
