Maybe yes, maybe no- would it shock anyone if a couple of major sports franchises end up in chapter 11?The same can be said of a lot of baseball players- the mlbpa screwed up royally by agreeing to the initial compromise without any assurances- I doubt they’re in a mood to deal

They can put up their pricey land up for sale

48% of $4BB sounds like about $2BB.  how much money was owed to the players for a half a season?

I guess I can drive and catch a Nats game in Tampa. Or Miami.  Oh wait...

so the real match was that the players were going to get 50% of their regular pay under the original deal that was announced, and now they are getting 48% of a reduced revenue stream (no ticket sales, other stuff not factored in).  I guess it is a reduction in pay, from the coverage.

Passan seems to think the players will forgo playing rather than accept a season based on revenue sharing

Stay tuned for another round of millionaires versus billionaires.  MLB will really lose lots of fans if they blow this.

"Rosenthal adds that several agents have arranged briefings for players from disease experts."

One positive case from a catcher detected by daily testing, and any protocol that calls for isolations presemably kills the whole thing, as you can't have two starting lineups sidlelined for an interdetminate amount of time (hearkening back to the Gobert case in the NBA).

Given previous comments from Boras and the priority of getting to the next free agency period, I would not be surprised if the "disease experts" were akin to tobacco lawyers with a particular agenda and focus that leads away from daily testing and isolation.

Proactive or not, if one teammate has it, multiple probably do- I’m waiting to see a team have to quarantine it’s whole bullpen for two weeks

That will test organizational depth.  Get rid of call up/send down restrictions.  It's a battle of attrition.  Play ball!

Only one of Rudy Gobert's teammates got it when he did.  I actually expected it to run rampant through the league because those guys play soooo close together for 2 hours, kind of amazing it didn't isn't it?

Still could've caught it and been asymptomatic

arizona announcing pro sports can come back this weekend is setting us up for a season in arizona, right? this is really going to test the logistical strength of each league.

I believe they tested everyone on teams he came in contact with. Or microphones he licked.  Of course still could have missed some.

Florida just announced the same thing.
So do teams want to play in 110 degree heat with low humidity or 95 degree heat with high humidity?

I was assuming that was just to accommodate the restart of Spring Training so teams could get personnel back into the facilities ASAP

Arizona, as a state, is kind of full of it

So far, IIRC, most of their outbreak has been on reservations

Passan tweets that the Reds are cutting salaries by up to 20% and furloughing 25% of team employees.  He expects other teams to announce similar moves. :(

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/05/latest-chatter-on-coronavirus-altered-season.html

With discussion of percentages of revenue from gameday operations, this came to mind:

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/financial-records-show-pirates-win-while-losing/

"The Pirates made nearly $29.4 million in 2007 and 2008, according to team financial documents, years that were part of a streak of futility that has now reached 18 straight losing seasons. The team’s ownership also paid its partners $20.4 million in 2008.

"The documents offer a rare peek inside a team that made money by getting slightly less than half its income (about $70 million) from MLB sources – including revenue sharing, network TV, major league merchandise sales and MLB’s website. The team also held down costs, keeping player salaries near the bottom of the National League, shedding pricier talent and hoping that untested prospects would blossom."

...

"The gem of a stadium opened in 2001 at a cost of $262 million, with the Pirates covering $44 million, after the team long lobbied for a baseball-only venue that would maximize revenues. Attendance peaked during the inaugural season at 2.4 million, but declined to a low of about 1.6 million last year. During the two years covered by the documents, gate receipts (more than $66 million) barely were enough to cover the expenses for ballpark and game operations, public relations, marketing and administration costs, much less payroll.

"Still, the club is profitable, taking in $15,008,032 in 2007 and $14,408,249 in 2008. Coonelly said Sunday the Pirates made $5.4 million in 2009."

Anyone see this on the book of faces and just get confused. Almost if they are hoping to have a game by June 4th at Nats Park? I don’t see it happening.
