Starting March 12, after the announcement that Opening Day would be postponed, we have seen a steep decline in our site traffic that has lead to a correspondingly dramatic decline in revenue. Every piece you read and tool you use at FanGraphs is free to access, but they all take money to create. We are a small business. We rely on the revenue generated by site traffic.

As a result of these declines, I’ve had to make fairly aggressive budget cuts to try to keep FanGraphs viable as a company until the COVID-19 pandemic is resolved and baseball returns. This has involved all of our full-time staff members taking pay cuts, laying off the majority of our contributors, and closing The Hardball Times for the foreseeable future. Now we are asking for your help.

mine renews on 4/6.  I'll double check my credit card so that it definitely goes through.  I think Houstonat still drops an occasional piece on HArdball Times.

Most of the media will be in deep doo doo as advertising sales crater.

...that, and the fact that there's so little new material on the sporting front these days besides season cutbacks/cancellations (thank goodness for NFL free agency).

ESPN was airing competitive rock skipping the other day...... so that's how far we have strayed from God's light.

I'm curious to how ESPN and RSNs are actually faring.  They shouldn't be losing much from their primary revenue stream of carriage fees.   Do they stop paying the leagues and NCAA while they aren't playing sports?   RSNs ad revenue is almost meaningless.  If they aren't paying the teams, but still collecting carriage fees, they could be raking in cash right now.   ESPN relies a little more on ad revenue, but they are still taking in their ~$1 billion in carriage fees monthly and if they aren't paying rights fees, they are really stealing from their subscribers right now.
