Golf 2020
« Topic Start: March 05, 2020, 06:29:02 PM »
Time for a 2020 thread with Bay Hill and Sawgrass back to back.     Went out today and walked 18 for the first time since October.      Game is the same (score) and I didn't fall down.    Life is good.    :)

I’m going to see if I can talk the wife into going to Bay Hill on the weekend. Includes three things she doesn’t like. Sun. Walking. Golf.

The boys are scorching the Arnold Palmer (W. PA) Invitational.     You're talking trifecta brother.

The boys have cooled off as the weather has done. Not making it this year. Maybe next year Tiger will show.

Pros are playing golf at Sawgrass (Players) this weekend with "essential personnel".     I walked 18 this morning.       Social distancing was not a problem.     I played from the woods.

TPC is cancelled.  This is bullcrap.  The one sport left to watch this weekend and they took that away from us.  If walking around on outdoors on a 500 acre golf course has been deemed too hazardous then we're all freaked.

They are in close proximity in the locker rooms and such. Maybe an overreaction but they decided to be extra cautious.

That makes sense about the players and "social distancing".    Throw in the travel;  some families in Europe;  etc. and it's a complicated mess.       I plan on playing at the local course next week.    I noticed yesterday that most people are keeping a respectful distance in the "clubhouse"/cashier.    The usual crowd was smaller so the opportunity to run into folks on the course is diminished.    I walked 18 alone.    There was a foursome 2 holes ahead and another single 3 or 4 holes behind.   He was playing a lot of practice golf (as was I  :)).     USGA picked a good time to let golfers leave the pin in.    Imagine the cooties the flag stick could gather.

With all the closures/crowd limiting, etc., the county is shutting down a lot of activities.    It appears the golf courses will be open because of the ability to permit social distancing.

I don’t have my clubs here in Florida. Bad timing.

This virus will make you think twice before you pick up a ball.  Have to make sure it’s your own.

Just got a notice from the county.    It appears they closed the public golf courses.     Hmmmmm wonder if I can sneak on?      :mg:

They probably care more about the clubhouse than the course itself. If anyone says anything, just remind them that vitamin D is essential for a strong immune system

I was wondering if they let "members" (people who buy a yearly pass) on.    If you have a pass, there is no need to go into the clubhouse at this time.       I might take a ride over and look (not that I can afford a yearly fee   :)).     If it's closed, the cart paths make good walking paths.

I was gonna drive by the other day and got side tracked   ....   probably looking for toilet paper.     :)     The website says the hiking paths are still open.

If they start without fans, how will the ball know it's supposed to get in the hole?

from a tv viewing perspective, golf may be the one sport where fans add nothing to the experience - then again, I watch golf in the background to relax, so this will make it even more calming

Especially on a tee shot on a par five.
