Dane Dunning got his first major league win last night, albeit against the Pirates. He is being strictly limited to 85 pitches per game because of TJ recovery, so even though he has pitched well he has often not gotten to 5 innings. ERA is below 3 now.

Jordan Zimmermann made his 2020 debut as an "opener" for the Tigers in the second game of a doubleheader. Pitched 3 innings giving up only an unearned run.

Well some folks miss his at bats per another thread.  He’s still very hot or very cold Bryce.  Hit another one yesterday along with a game tying double in the nightcap.

Earlier in the night, Gio Gonzalez came on for a clean inning in a tie game in the bottom of the 9th and threw one strike in 5 pitches before the sixth went over the fence (waaaaaaay over) for a walkoff.

But the wrong one on Brian Goodwin

Not at all. Goodwin was the cancer that wasn’t around in 2019 not Harper. Godwin’s entire career is built on burning bridges.

Goodwin was only around for half of 2018 and most of 2017.  I'm not disputing that he might be an jerk (I have no information either way), but it's pretty hard to put that much blame on a dude who was only around for a year and a half without something a lot more concrete.  (Him getting run out of KC always looked funny to me, so I'd hardly be shocked if there was a backstory there, but still, that's a lot of blame to put on a backup outfielder who spent a lot of time in the minors.)

Goodwin got dumped at around the same time Kelley and Kintzler did - and those were pretty transparently chalked up to personality issues - so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's a "challenging individual to work with," but it's also true that the Nats had an outfield logjam then and he was out of options.

Goodwin was traded for Condra-Bogan on 7/22/18.  Kintzler was traded at the deadline to the Cubs.  Kelley was cut.

Sitting at a 3.20 ERA.  Got dumped for the lefty the Sox drafted this year, who throws 100 with a cross-plate slider and a change that generates swings and misses at (gulp) 93.

Two trades for nothing and a cut.  Same feces, different calendar marking.

:) Belmont University (they hosted one of the Presidential debates this year).

Here's the blurb on Jackson.  It doesn't say anything about his driving skills.

Quote
Jackson Werth, SS, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla.

Ranked in the top 500 by Perfect Game, Werth currently plays for head coach Dan Simonds at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Werth recently competed in the Area Code Games, a multi-day showcase for the best 220+ high school baseball players from across the country.

Playing in 12 Perfect Game showcase games in 2020 and having a .393 batting average, Werth was named to Perfect Game's 2020 Preseason Underclassmen All-American Team. In addition to competing in a state tournament, Werth was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars in his junior year.

And real coaching at Vandy is just a short walk away.

He got a ring!
I kind of wondered his being dropped off the roster.  Barrera and Read may have more of a future, but I thought Kieboom skills-wise was still the 3d best for the short term after Gomes and Suzuki.  Now I think we are down to Gomes and Barrera on the roster, right?

It can't be easy walking away when you have that calibre of a baseball name.

GM for the Rangers is a tall task, but Young may be the perfect guy for it.
Two GMs coming out of the MLB front office this year.  Young and Ng.  This Chris Young is much better than the Chris Young the Phils had as pitching coach in 2019.
