Ali Modami joins the angles as the LH batting practice pitcher (same role he had here from 2012-2019 (he opted out in 2020)). He was the big guy who always seemed to be on camera behind the manager during games and who often gave piggy back rides through the dugout to guys who hit a home run. He seemed to be beloved by the players. Dougherty says he lives in AZ and wanted to be closer to home.

Here’s a story about him from 2019

Desmond has now opted out of $23 million in guaranteed money.
This seems like retirement with extra steps

He says he’d rather be with his family. Sounds like he’s already retired but is t ready to completely walk away. He’s walked away from $13.5 million so far.

I guess we'll find out soon enough if he has anything left in the tank.

He's had ERAs under 3 the past two years.  Dude bounces around, but he gets people out.

I have the Rays game on the local channel. Goodwin and Difo the first two hitters for the Pirates. Might be a long year for them.
