Tatis is in the cusp if a deal. 11/320 is being thrown around
that would buy out a year of MLB minimum, 3 years of arbitration, and 7 years of free agency. Take Rendon's contract (7 years, $245MM, $35MM AAV), which is the richest infielder contract to date. HE's a shortstop, so he's worth more, but they are buying out 4 years of uncertainty before he gets to free agency, so call it $36MM a year. 320- 252 is $68MM. 40/60/80% for the 3 years of arb would be $15MM, $22MM, and $30MM for the arb years, $1MM for the last pre-arb year. So, makes perfect sense.
Applying it to Turner, figure he's not Tatis, but he's a lot closer to FA than Tatis is. So, back down the 9 years, $304MM from Tatis's numbers to something like 9 years, $270MM? Adjust a bit more for age. 9 years, $250MM? I don't see the Nats doing that before the next MLBPA agreement. Even with that, I don't see them doing that this year before Max's contract expires. OTOH, I think the chance of keeping Turner and him becoming FotF after RZ is greater than Soto.
