Then move Turner to 3B in his thirties.
You mean second?

Tatis is in the cusp if a deal. 11/320  is being thrown around

Tatis is in the cusp if a deal. 11/320  is being thrown around
that would buy out a year of MLB minimum, 3 years of arbitration, and 7 years of free agency.  Take Rendon's contract (7 years, $245MM, $35MM AAV), which is the richest infielder contract to date.  HE's a shortstop, so he's worth more, but they are buying out 4 years of uncertainty before he gets to free agency, so call it $36MM a year.  320- 252 is $68MM. 40/60/80% for the 3 years of arb would be $15MM, $22MM, and $30MM for the arb years, $1MM for the last pre-arb year.  So, makes perfect sense.

Applying it to Turner, figure he's not Tatis, but he's a lot closer to FA than Tatis is.  So, back down the 9 years, $304MM from Tatis's numbers to something like 9 years, $270MM?  Adjust a bit more for age. 9 years, $250MM?  I don't see the Nats doing that before the next MLBPA agreement. Even with that, I don't see them doing that this year before Max's contract expires.  OTOH, I think the chance of keeping Turner and him becoming FotF after RZ is greater than Soto.

If Tatis is getting that kind of money, Turner is going to demand 25+ million AAV. Which I dont see the Lerners paying

agreed. Just a swag, I would not be surprised at 6 years, $200MM, after playing out his contract. That's $33.3MM per year. That compares to my mock contract for Tatis's post arb years of 7 years, $252MM.

So, basically, they need to trade him either at the deadline or in the offseason

I'm really confused by that quote.

Is he mad Turner is swinging for the fences and not getting on base infront of power hitters? Or does he think he's too excited about solo homers?

Yep, I think he was making a point that managers are likely always going to see them as issues

I mean, I'm kind of there with Turner. We're in the era of homers. Solo dingers aren't the end of the world.

But I guess he should give the old school answer instead of the common sense one.

if you give up 4 solo home runs in 6 innings, that's not easy to overcome.

It’s time for the Nats to pony up and pay for offense. Turner and Soto should be Nats for life.

You can’t pay Harper because you have to pay Rendon
You can’t pay Rendon because you have to pay Turner
You can’t pay Turner because you have to pay Soto
You can’t pay Soto because you have to pay “insert name here”

The Lerner game plan and somehow they’ve got fans to believe it

The Nats offered Harper $300 million over 10 years IiRC and 7/$210-215 million to Rendon.

With outrageous deferrals. They were bad faith offers the Lerners knew wouldn’t be accepted.

And yet Max and Stras took big contracts with deferrals, right?
