there was a good connery movie where he played a monk who would go from abbey to abbey investigating crimes for the monastic order.  Googled it - The Name of the Rose.  With Christian Slater as his apprentice.

There's a scene when they arrive at the Abbey, and the monks there have a vow of silence.  So Slater wants to know where the monks go to relieve himself.  Connery explains that where to go by pointing out a monk who moved hastily to a spot out of sight and who came back looking relieved.

It's a movie version of the novel of the same name by Umberto Eco. I read Foucault's Pendulum by him and quite enjoyed it. Foucault's Pendulum is somewhat like a Dan Brown book, except it's only the characters that believe in conspiracy theories, rather than characters and author.

Both of those books are outstanding. If you like the monk as investigator theme, Cadfael is showing on Amazon Prime. A BBC series (from the 80s?) that is pretty entertaining.

I haven't seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but from what I heard it was campy to the point of Inspector Clouseau. Not sure if that's truly the case, but it's how it was described to me. That description and the fact he didn't get another movie was enough to not make me care that it's the only one where you get to see Mrs. Bond.

Really bummed to hear about Alex Trebek.  I've been an avid Jeopardy watcher for about 30+ years now and remember watching it with my parents in the 1980s.

New episodes of Jeopardy will air until Christmas day when the final one he hosted will be broadcasted. I assume Ken Jennings takes over the hosting role.

Ironic nod to the SNL Jeopardy skits that both Trebek and Connery passed within a week or so of each other.

I read that he taped episodes until the end of October. Impressive.

I've been a Jeopardy addict since middle school. Big salute to Alex. After his initial diagnosis, I never expected he could fight the battle as long as he did.  Cheers to a true warrior.
