494.4 Career WAR had died this year, just from the Hall of Famers. If you add Tony Perez, Jim Wynn, Bob Watson, Tony Taylor and Claudell Washington, it’s 667.1 I wonder if that’s the most in one year.

This really has been a brutal year on the sports-obituary front - all the baseball Hall of Famers we've lost in the past month or so, and so many more.

Tony Lewis, age 62—lead singer of the Outfield (Josh Willingham used one of their songs as his walk-up music when he was with the Nats).

Their guitarist and songwriter died in 2014 as well. I was always surprised they were a one-hit wonder, with that voice and style I would have expected a lot more out of them.

Their sound kind of conjured up corn fields and Dairy Queen but I think were like total east ender cockney lads.  Which explains the besbol connection

Author Terry Goodkind died on September 17. I only just saw that via author Terry Brooks's website. I had no idea Goodkind was 72 years old.

Wow, I had no idea at all. I was enjoying the Wizard's First Rule books up until he took a hard swerve into Ayn Rand territory and rolled around in it like a dog who found a pile of random wild animal scat.

Travis Roy's story is pretty famous in Boston and maybe in college hockey.  He was paralyzed 11 seconds into his first shift as a freshman.  He became an incredible fundraiser for spinal cord injuries.  He did some motivational speaking too.  He eventually viewed his injury as almost a blessing because it led to all the good he was able to do helping others.
