Bonnie Pointer :( "I'm so Excited" was a staple of my freshman year of college, we danced our little hearts out to that fantastic song.  RIP.

I was into them when I was at university, back in their 'Yes We Can Can'/'How Long' days; 'Neutron Dance' was another good one, especially when it was played over an uproarious chase scene in Beverly Hills Cop.

That just leaves two of the original foursome (Anita and Ruth) left...sad. Blast I'm getting old.

....

I have the cassette tape of that soundtrack somewhere. My dad loved that tape and in the 1980s we listened to it frequently in the car on the way to or from Boy Scout trips. One of the other kids' fathers heard it playing and said his favorite song on that tape is "Neutron Bomb" (referring to the song you mention).

(I can still play the tape if I were so inclined and I could figure out where it is; there's a cassette deck downstairs and three of our cars have cassette players, though none of them get used very often. I think I most recently used the one in the car I regularly drive back in July 2018 when our relatives from Fort Myers were visiting and their kids had not seen a cassette player, so I pulled a Weird Al tape out of the center armrest and played it.)

For folks who were southern "rasslin" fans in the 1970s and 1980s, Johnny "Mr. Wrestling II" Walker passed away at 85 years of age.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Wrestling_II

He was friends with Jimmy Carter and refused an invite to Carter's inauguration because the Secret Service told him he couldn't wear his mask (back before mask wearing was fashionable) :)

Jean Kennedy Smith at 92.  Last survivor of Joe Sr.'s kids.  Her husband I think was the money guy for that generation and ran the businesses.  She was ambassador to Ireland and a key in the peace deal.

Ian Holm at 88. Perhaps best-known for playing Bilbo Baggins in the original LOTR trilogy.

I find it mind-boggling that he was 88. He really did not seem that old. He was already 48 when Alien was filmed and 66 or 67 when The Fifth Element was filmed. He did look a bit frail in the Hobbit movies compared to LOTR, though.

When I saw the obit in the paper, I recognized her name only because of the Pink Floyd song noted above, and I was surprised to find that said song's lyrics "We will meet again some sunny day" were song title references. I didn't know Vera Lynn was a real person until I saw the reports of her death.

Also, if you ever saw the film Dr Strangelove, 'We'll Meet Again' (in Vera Lynn's original) was played over a series of nuclear bomb explosions in the film's finale.

I did remember the Pink Floyd track referenced above (I have the album).

I've had that song stuck in my since reading the original post in here.

Absolute legend.  I remember seeing an interview with Mel Brooks last year in which he said he and Reiner still had lunch once a week together, and mostly talked about problems going to the bathroom.

I guess that leaves Mel Brooks and Dick Van Dyke.
