to ppx, an outfit that owns smith and wollensky's.  I remember eating at the original in Inman Square.  The flagship used to be in Chestnut Hill.

About once a year I used to attend a conference around the corner from their test kitchen on the Boston waterfront in the seaport district.  It closed earlier this year and they just announced that it won't be reopening. :(

Used to love LSF, but their quality and selection kept going downhill over the last 6-7 or so years...haven't been back for maybe 2-3 years, so maybe it picked up.  Their shrimp cocktail, wedge salad and rolls were top notch at one time...
I wonder if they have the same quality control in the VA/DC as they did when the fish used to land in Boston.  Of course now all their fish is flown in other than shellfish up there.  Rolls, of course, were great.  They do some nice fish with Asian sauces, and veggies are terrific.  I used to love their bluefish pate, which you don't get down here.  I'll go to clam shacks (or outlets of clam shacks) rather than Legals for fried clams.  I'd often end up with trout.  It's been a long time.

They built a nice travel-friendly place inside Logan Airport in the United Terminal. I frequented it back in the days when business travel was a thing.

and one at the end of terminal B around gate 9 or so. But, if you just want fried clams, go to Kelly's right around gate 15. Kelly's is Kelly's Roast Beef, but they are known for their clams. They are opposite the Potbelly and Wolfgang Puck place near the TSA that serves the first set of American gates. My regular route when I'd visit my Dad.

I’ll keep that in mind if i ever fly again. Boston is one of my favorite destinations.

It hasn’t picked back up.

Bummer...

We last ate at the one across the street from the Capital One Arena a couple of years ago, and that pretty well closed the book for us...

That’s the one I ate at, and came to the same conclusion.

too bad.  I had OK luck at the one in Crystal City, but that's departed.

Mentioning "departed" and a Boston fish place reminds me of Jack Nicholson dining in the movie.

Bought the wife an espresso maker for Christmas and set it up this morning. All went well, and as we enjoyed our first cup of cappuccino I couldn't figure out why the cup smelled and tasted like chili.

Then I discovered that the ground cinnamon I sprinkle on the top of the foam was actually ground cumin.

The second batch was much better.

Cumin is good for you!

Yes and we use it in lots of recipes including chili and most cuban dishes.

However, it doesn't go very well in coffee. :)

Tonight’s dinner: Mustard-baked chicken with a pretzel crust. Get some thick Snyder's pretzels and pulverize them in a food processor, then make a mustard-based oil and vinegar dressing and use half of that to coat the chicken before dredging it in the pretzels and baking it for 25 minutes. The rest of the dressing goes on the chicken when serving. This was really good and we'll make it again. The chicken had a nice crunch sort of like fried chicken without frying it.

The mustard and onion pretzel bites might be interesting to try with that recipe

Very interesting article on food store trends - many have come from experiences over this past year:

I don't eat lobster rolls unless I'm northeast of the Piscataqua.

I got some bacon-wrapped quail appetizers and some thin-cut veal, so we'll have veal piccata.

Looks good.  I prefer them Connecticut style, so looks like the Stonington on their menu would be what I'd order.

The piccata tasted right, but since the veal pieces were already thin I didn’t pound them. That may have been a mistake. A couple of them were slightly chewier than others. Just means room for improvement next time.
