They may be racist but that’s not where the name cane from.  Does this mean we have to ban the word?

it means we shouldn't care- they made the hard decision to not be racist anymore, so nothing racist about it

Triggered!
just wait for the first game he does and how he says the Nats are more impacted by the virus than other teams. Every game will be an away game for the Nats. Etc.

I’ve been less interested in football generally (Redskins or otherwise) in recent years, but I’m thinking it might be time to head to the Redskins store at Tysons to stock up on Redskins paraphernalia before it disappears.

As I've said on other platforms, I don't care if the Redskins change their name, but I hope it sets a standard. Then the Cleveland Indians do so that puts pressure on the Braves.
I don't care about it one way or another, but if the Braves fans have one more reason to be upset, all of this is worth it.

Sea Dogs was one of the selections for the Wizards when they held a fan vote.  They never released the results of that vote, and there was lots of speculation that Sea Dogs got the most votes as there was an effort by Don and Mike and others to get people to vote for that name because it was so dumb.

I heard yesterday that Rivera has been talking to Danny for a month to get him to change the name.  If Snyder renames the team, and that leads to a successful effort to build a new stadium on the RFK site and bring the team back to D.C., he's going to undo a lot of the damage he's done over the last decade or so.

My first reaction to changing Bullets to Wizards was, "Great, the owner disregarded the poll and used the name he wanted... The title for the leader of the Ku Klux Klan." I thought that fans, especially black ones, should have protested by showing up to games in KKK robes.

1. They could keep the name Redskins, but change the logo to Redskin potatoes.
2. Change the name to Monuments. Have a different monument for each game, including the ones torn down by radical leftist Communists. It will sell a lot more apparel.

^^^^

I saw a great political-type cartoon once where Donald Sterling bought the Wizards and had the players dress in Klan regalia. I always found the name "Wizards" bizarre for a team in the sport that's probably the most popular among black people and located in a heavily black city.

It won the naming contest at the height of the Harry Potter craze.

A quick Google indicates that the other potential options were the Stallions, Dragons, Express, and Seadogs. Any of those better in y’all’s opinion?

I think all names sound pretty stupid in the abstract- it's the branding and marketing that make them good or bad. That being said, I think all of those options are as bad as the wizards which is one of the more random names.

Agreed. The Wizards name might be iffy, but IMO, the jerseys and colors are pretty damn great which mitigates the silly name a bit. Hell, they basically are wearing modernized Bullets jerseys; there’s nothing magical-ish looking about them anymore.

I like the current ones- once they ditched the teal the uniforms got a lot better. I know the redskins are steeped in more tradition, but I'd like to see them move to the same red white and blue that most other teams in town are doing

IMO just Wolves rather than Redwolves is better because you get the alliteration of Washington Wolves, but Redwolves is fine. Certainly better than Warriors.
