Too many $$$ involved. Like all the other major professional leagues, the show was going to go on.

The big question I see for MLB is the travel. More chance to catch the COVID.

Imo, NBA and NHL are doing it correctly with the 1 site idea. MLB players are probably going to still go out to their favorite road places and that increases the chances of contracting virus and spreading it to your teammates and coaches.

Saw this, and was not pleased, because that was something they could’ve held off with and done in front of the fans. The raising of the banners is something to be done in front of fans, and they could’ve held off. All those years of looking up at the empty banner, and wanting to be there if possible when they did it.

Zuckerman: “Before tomorrow night’s game, the Nationals will raise both a 2019 World Series champions flag in the center field plaza and a 2019 pennant atop the scoreboard to join the Senators' 1924, 1925 and 1933 pennants.”

Some have speculated that MLB, as the piece of metal vendors, might’ve pushed that, but this is a place to push back. Put on some little temporary thing with the logo, but leave the pennant raising to when people are actually there.  Even the Astros got to raise their tainted finery in front of fans, and are certainly not being told by the commissar to take them down despite the evident Black Sox-level activity connected with it

Some of the players are already gone.  If they wait until 2021 there will be even fewer and no guarantee of fans then either.  I am sure they will do something special when the fans return.

The team had spoken to the difference in May even amidst the unusual times. Oh well.

“While the Nationals have decided to hold their championship ring ceremony before returning to the field, the raising of the championship banner is a different story. General manager Mike Rizzo revealed in April that the team will not raise the championship banner at Nationals Park until fans are back in the stands. Rizzo said the team would wait as long as it takes to make sure the fans were part of that moment. Those plans have not changed.“

What’s the point of raising a banner in an empty stadium?

I'm not ready. At least not mentally right now. I'm pandemic tired and politically sick. Sports have been on my back burner, even my trading card collecting somewhat. I don't think I will ever get used to those "air" high fives the players give each other.

Forgive me for being a bummer and a party pooper. Now get off my lawn you whipper-snappers. (BTW I live in an apartment so no lawn)

I will admit to barely paying attention the last few weeks.  I'm not even really excited to have them back, as I feel the product is going be basically an extended spring training.  Lots of players out, lots of players not in full game shape.  All of the rules changes, players shuffling in and out.  It's a de facto exhibition season.

I guess it will be better than nothing, which is the best compliment I can give the effort at this point.
