Angels are in 3rd place at 32-32 - 13 games back of houston and 4.5 back of Oakland

I understood not paying Harper. He simply wasn’t worth it. Rendon is worth every penny. Offensively and Defensively, he’s elite. This lineup is sorely lacking his hitting prowess. The ideal #3 hitter. A shame the Nats let him walk, when they’re so willing to pay free agents. Rendon is the best player to wear a Nats jersey. Everything Ryan Zimmerman was destined to be, before injuries took their toll.

Probably Almost certainly not, but they never made him a competitive offer, so we will never know.

Given all the stuff that came out after the WS, the Nats would have had to pay a lot of money to be competitive. More than what LA was paying.

If we had offered the most money, Rendon probably still leaves. His wife hated it in DC. He had several instances of being at odds with the front office, as evidenced by his complaints about how they handled family travel during the playoffs. And Rendon .... well hes a Republican. He didnt like the fans booing Trump in Game 5.

Maybe if the Nats had offered a lot more money, but Rendon wasnt going to stay without a big reason.

we really could have used his bat:

Last 12 games: .489 BA / .547 OBP / .872 SLG / 1.420 OPS / 5 HR / 6 BB / 7 K

bridge too far.  Soto + Corbin + $ to extend a key FA was more than enough to get us over the Harper Hump, but Kieboom and extending Strasburg doesn't make up for Rendon, especially with the carpal tunnel.  Would have been nice if Garcia and Robles growth was additive and not part of replacing the lead dog.
