Hall of Fame 2020
« Topic Start: December 08, 2019, 08:34:00 PM »
Executive Marvin Miller and Catcher Ted Simmons elected by modern era committee.

It remains a travesty that Lou Whitaker is not in the hall of fame.

Glad for Miller.  Wished Dewey made it.  Simmons is a pretty good choice too.

In 19 years playing Lou Whitaker only hit .300 twice. He has a .276 lifetime average with 244 career home runs. Not HOF stats.

Alfonso Soriano got 6 votes. Adam Dunn got 1.

One voter did not vote for Derek Jeter. Oh, and Larry Walker got in.

Walker becomes only the second Canadian horn player in the Hall. Quick trivia. Who is the other?  No checking Google.

Derek Jeter was one vote shy of being an unanimous selection into the HOF

Whoever didn’t vote for him should never be allowed to cast another vote again.

Why? There have been plenty of better players who were not unanimous.

True, junior and Nolan Ryan come to mind. All should have been unanimous IMHO.

Dunn got one vote.

Here’s Zuckerman’s ballot:

So, do we have a Larry Walker Day at Nats Park, like we honored Dawson, Carter, and Raines?  We are away on Canada Day, so no day jumps out.

Probably the fact that he was the greatest of all time at his position.

Think of how relatively few MLB players we saw in our lifetimes were even in the conversation for greatest ever at their position. Mariano Rivera is indisputably the greatest relief pitcher ever.

Worst trade in history. Or maybe second to trading Ryne Sandberg.
