Reminder - tomorrow is the yard sale at the Pfitz from 10-3 PM, they will be selling whatever P-Nats merchandise remains, as well as game-work jerseys and autographed items.  Now is your chance to get that Cutter Dykstra jersey you always wanted!

The Washington Nationals have announced the coaching staff for the Fredericksburg Nationals inaugural 2020 season. The FredNats will be reunited with former Potomac Nationals Manager Tripp Keister, Hitting Coach Luis Ordaz, Athletic Trainer Don Neidig, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Shane Hill. The FredNats will be welcoming Justin Lord in his first year as their Pitching Coach.

Keister is entering his seventh consecutive season as Manager with the franchise, and has managed 846 games, the most in franchise history with 423 regular season wins. Keister has previously managed two other levels in Washington's system, the Class-A Hagerstown Suns, and the Gulf Coast League Nationals. He also played four seasons in the New York Mets' Minor League system.

Ordaz will enter into his fifth consecutive season with the franchise and 10th season in the minor league system as Hitting Coach for the FredNats. Ordaz led the Potomac Nationals to the second-best batting average in the Carolina League during the 2019 season. Ordaz made 206 appearances at the Major League level between 1997 and 2006, with the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Byron Kerr reports the stadium will be ready for the April 23rd home opener.  The FredNats open the season with a 14 game road trip to give them extra time to get it ready, they also have leased another year at the Pfitz if necessary.

Would have been very interesting if the season hadn't been postponed, given the state of that construction.  That's not even close, like maybe not this season.

They had signed another year-long lease at the Pfitz and planned to play there until the stadium is ready.  IIRC, A few months ago they were hoping for a May open date.

That's sort of what I meant in that I think they'd have the best part of a season at the Pfitz.  That doesn't look like they even have all the concrete poured.

Yep. They were targeting April 25th for the first home game. Not sure if construction has slowed down since the virus outbreak but based on those pictures there is no chance they would have been ready to go in another 3 1/2 weeks.

Stadium is moving along nicely. They claim they could have hosted a game tomorrow (was the scheduled home opener) but that seems a little far-fetched.

Team is having a virtual home opener which will include a stadium tour for anyone interested: https://www.milb.com/fredericksburg/news/at-home-opener-2020

Nice looking stadium. Silber finally gets one after all these years and now no baseball.

We took a tour of the new stadium over the weekend. It is beautiful, basically an upgrade from a porta-john to the ritz Carlton compared to the Pfitz.  The field is artificial turf with shredded coconut husks to reduce the heat and increase the softness. They said Miami and Arizona have the same turf, but this is the first minor league team to use it.  A lot of the luxury suites and boxes are already sold out.

It’s too bad minor league baseball is dead. They can use it for a baseball movie.  And set up a flea market on weekends.

The plan is to use it as a concert venue as well. They had 16 shows booked for this year. They went with artificial turf to allow for those kinds of use cases that would damage natural grass.

I’m sure the size of the acts that Fredericksburg can attract will totally justify the stadium price tag
