that was for 2017- what about for last year

They are investigating last year right now. If there’s any wrongdoing, it will be impossible for Cora to say it’s without his knowledge.

I’m referring to the astros

it actually seems kind of a light penalty.  Basically betting on your own team gets you a lifetime suspension, but actually cheating to win games only gets you a one year suspension.

I don't know how you don't suspend both for life.

The Astros, who won the 2017 World Series, used their sign-stealing scheme that postseason.”

Should the title be vacated?   I kinda hate then the NCAA does it.  It feels like no once cares.

I don't really see that firing Hinch (or Cora) has any importance.   I don't know the legal (contractual) aspects, but I would assume that this suspension would relieve the Asros of any contractual commitment beyond 2020. I don't know that for a fact, but otherwise MLB would be forcing the Astros to hold the position  for him and hire an interim manger for a year.

It ultimately doesn't/wouldn't matter (everyone saw the Astros win it, obviously) but in the NCAA, "cheating" is so rampant and titles being vacated is pretty normal across football and basketball, all things considered. Taking away a title would be unprecedented in major pro sports, right?

Crane is gonna need a stabilizing presence as the new manager. I recommend Dusty. :D

That's actually a pretty great idea, I mean who else are they going to find on such short notice with that much experience?

Showalter, Washington, or Farrell come to mind.

So was blowing off a World Series in 1994, so MLB is capable of quite a bit

Farrell had his own issues with the apple watch controversy in 2017, right?

Lol at the Astros knocking around Yu Darvish in game 7 of 2017 World Series because he was “tipping his pitches.”

That’s the thing about cheating- it’s real hard to get caught doing it and then argue that it didn’t help

This is a pretty key pitch in game 1 with a very obvious whistle and he hit it like he knew exactly what was coming.

I wasn’t saying it didn’t help. It definitely did. I was saying that without the benefit of hindsight, theta I probably wouldn’t risk these penalties on something that didn’t guarantee me a championship. And this definitely didn’t do that.

That’s why I think these punishments will be an actual deterrent.

In hindsight, everyone would probably make this trade.

So they fired all their scouts to do their analytic Wall Street thing  Then fired their Wall Street guys and their manager.  I think they are going to be hurting more than people say.  Also lost their best player and their next best pitcher will be 37 next year.

Gotta be a lifetime ban for Cora, no?
I would not bat an eye at that.  the only argument would be if they were not using extra cameras and if there was no relaying other than the guy on base having learned the signs then relaying them (that is, no spies, drums, smart watches, etc... getting calls from off the field).

It's what I was alluding to in my earlier post. A few Nats starters got hit hard early on, then a catchers meeting, presumably to alter the indicator, and then they were flawless. It happened in several of the games, if I recall, though I would need to re-watch or look at the box scores to be sure.

So the Astros will have an asterisk next to their title just like the 51 Giants?

Showalter would be a good choice but it might not be the best time for them to hire Washington with his cocaine past.
