Well at least Dave will get to manage the All Star game this year and the Nats may finally be represented and play.

Stras and Ant'ny could be the lone representatives for the Padres and Rangers respectively...though Ant'ny likely wouldn't show up anyway...

In seriousness - I hold the position that they're meaningless because nobody would ever say "I'd rather be manager of the year than be manager of the World Series Champions"

How the hell can Matt Williams win MOY but Martinez doesn't even make the cut?

Matt Wiilliams' team won the division. davey Martinez's won a Wild Card.
 :dibbs:

Only six managers have won the award while leading a team that finished outside the top two spots in its division. Ted Williams was the first, after leading the "expansion" Washington Senators to a third-place finish (and, at 86-76, their only winning season) in the American League, in 1969.

It should be called "Manager of the regular season award" if that's really what it is.

I feel like there should be some sort of secondary voting if your top three candidates are in the postseason.

And Manager of the Year should definitely count the postseason. This isn't the MVP race or Cy Young. If you don't make the playoffs, you're not to win Manager of the Year. At least, not without something amazing (like if the Orioles or Marlins manager had gotten his team to 80+ wins).

He could console himself in his Corvette. (Maybe he can do it like Ralph Sampson supposedly did and remove the front seat of a sports car so he could fit)

I imagine if he won the cy young it would have cost the nats probably another 5 million on his contract.

I rather he play decent in the season then lights out in the post season.

Clayton Kershaw is a regular season God and regular finalist.

Not saying stras doesn't deserve it... Just rather he didn't do it in an opt out year

You just know that Rachel has inquired with Chevy about the cash value of the prize, so that may be they could buy a nice, but conservative, minivan. Maybe this time with leather, if it doesn't cost too much.

Why did Acuna win the Silver Slugger over Juan Soto?

Because MLB hates the Nats.

Feels like Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards are closer to how All Stars get picked than say, how the MVP and Cy Young winners get picked.

Same reason he was picked for ROY last year and the all star game this year - he's a better player.

Not a better hitter though, which is what the award is for...

Yep. Soto has better stats this year. Both OPS and OPS+ were higher.

Freeman also won over Alonso despite being a worse hitter. I guess the Braves can take their unearned awards as consolation prizes for flaming out in the postseason.
