Postseason Awards
« Topic Start: November 04, 2019, 06:49:29 PM »
Scherzer in the running for Cy Young along with Ryu and de Grom.

Manager of the Year: Counsell, Schildt and Snitker. No Davey (but I think these all come in before the postseason starts?)

No others Nats as of yet.

Agreed. At least he knocked off two of the finalists in the playoffs.

Baseball doesn't like the Nationals.

I don't believe the postseason counts for any of these.

Based on the regular season only, Davey should have been nominated. Dumb.

I agree. 19-31 to serious contender. Best record since may 24.

What does this have to do with postseason awards?
Just saw it under the attendance tab on the finalist page.

What more can be said? Davey got screwed. But he doesnt need a Manager of the Year award to know what he did. He will go down in MLB history as one of the most clutch managers of all time in all of sports. No HC/Manager has taken such a horrible start and produced such magic in one year. Not even Trotz can say he did that.

with Trevor Rosenthal and Kyle Barraclaugh as two of his top three bullpen options.

How the hell can Matt Williams win MOY but Martinez doesn't even make the cut?

Well at least Dave will get to manage the All Star game this year and the Nats may finally be represented and play.

And the Dodgers are hosting the all-star game so a pinch of salt in their wounds.

not necessarily, some players (and I assume some managers) may have incentive clauses in their contracts that are tied to awards.

That doesn't move the needle on my care-meter.  YMMV.

In seriousness - I hold the position that they're meaningless because nobody would ever say "I'd rather be manager of the year than be manager of the World Series Champions"

That is definitely true, but to be fair, prior to a week ago that wasn't an option for a nat.  ;)
