The Gerardo Parra, real MVP thread
« Topic Start: October 31, 2019, 08:28:42 AM »
I know we all appreciate this guy, but is it too far fetched to think he’s one of the main reasons we won this? He turned this club house around with his presence - even when not playing he is the guy that unified this team. He will maybe get forgotten, but I’ll never forget what he did for this clubhouse

he's definitely a big reason for the turn-around.

Scherzer said as much in one of the postgame interviews. He said Parra's contribution in injecting the latin culture into the clubhouse was a big reason the team had the chemistry that united them. It's really hard to imagine this team having that same atmosphere with Werth and Harper in the clubhouse.

I predict this will be the best selling product of all time dedicated to a 5th outfielder

Indeed it would have probably torn the dressing room in two.

Werth, for all of his faults, was professional and demanded that from his teammates. On a bad team, there’s not much fun so it’s important to have a reasonably even keel during the grind. It would be interesting to see how this years culture would’ve made everyone feel on a 75 win team.

Not taking anything away I’ve loved it all and am still over the moon!

Strasburg said that as well - he said it meant he had to learn how to dance

The Post published a guide to the Nats' shark signs:

https://twitter.com/PostSports/status/1187881579890257930

this is awesome:

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/toward-a-unified-theory-of-baby-shark/
From the unified theory:
Quote
With this investigation now concluded, allow me to present a unified theory of baby shark. First, there’s troubling inconsistency around baby shark and mommy shark. When a player reaches second base, whether on a double or a single plus an error, there appears to be a norm towards using mommy shark — witness Zimmerman and most of the dugout agreeing in real time on mommy shark after Bregman’s error.

The rules around first base are in opposition to second base. Walks don’t elicit a baby shark, although they entail reaching first base safely, just as a single and an error lead one to second base without pester. Reaching first base on an error doesn’t even entitle a Nationals hitter to a baby shark, though clearly the error can upgrade a baby shark into a mommy shark. There’s chaos here, in other words. Would a single and a two-base error lead to a daddy shark? Would a player thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double still show baby shark? Questions abound.

PREDICTION:

The Baby Shark song will continue to played at Nationals Park, probably in the 7th inning. Precedent: Michael Morse's "Take on Me" song was played, even after he left.

probably true for a bit, but it won't be the same.

Parra will make a heck of a manager some day.

Here's the ideal situatuon: bring back Terrence and Roger Bernadina to the staff ( it was sure a whole lot of people introduced at the NLCS in World Series who work for the team, so we can find a place for them) for all things shark.  Then hire Parra to be on Davey's bench team in a year or two, to complete the picture.

Parra's deal pays him $2 million guaranteed and $500k in bonuses, plus a $3 million vesting option for 2021 (no details on what he needs to do for it to vest).

Don't think he was going to get much more than a minor league deal with a ST invite from a major league club.

now chase that money while you still can.

Thank you Parra for your contributions to changing the culture of our team. No bench player has had more impact than you
