Still think this lineup needs a solid upgrade at 2B. Not sure who is available. Kendrick/Zim split 1B

Certainly it’s a leap of faith on Kieboom and he may prove to not be ready. But, if the team signs Donaldson, it’s clear that they aren’t paying anyone to start at 2nd. Kieboom has the potential to be better than some decent money free agents, and he’ll be extremely cheap. We need him, at his salary, to take hold of one of those open infield spots. Then use available funds for the pen.

if Cabrera were willing to slip into a role where he'd be a backup with about 300 PAs pencilled in before injuries, then I think he's moving into a "must sign" position.  Perhaps you put in some incentives for appearances or PAs.  He'd be Kieboom insurance, and capable of playing around the infield.

Thames is interesting too.  I would not mind going into next year with Thames and RZ at 1st, Turner at SS, and some combo of Cabrera, Kendrick, and Kieboom covering 2d and 3d.  I'd still be looking for another 3B, but it would not have to be a star.

Cabrerra is probably then next available third baseman after Donaldson.

Kieboom is gonna hit. The question is where will he play. In the end, he may get moved to the OF, like how Castellanos was.

have some doubts on signing JD, not only his age but his clubhouse persona as well.
( does he dance? ) maybe i am just crying over rendon heading to the west coast, not only is he no longer on my team but i will rarely see him as well. kinda like being dumped by the homecoming queen, the next one will be hard pressed to measure up.

I'm actually warming up to the idea of Donaldson. We are in a win now mode. But I still want something like a Gennett on a bounce back year at 2B. I'd rather Kieboom force their hand to play him rather than force him to play.

What are some actual bullpen options left out there?  Rather concerning we haven't addressed that at all.

Rizzo doesnt worry about the pen until the deadline.

Hudson, Harris, Betances, and Cishek are the best options remaining.

I discriminate against mullets (or anything resembling a mullet) but I'm willing to make an exception in his case -- he's the real deal.

Bryant's is so repugnant that I'm not making any exception for him.

I want to sign Donaldson BECAUSE of his mullet. It's glorious.

I think AssCab is flexible at this point in his career.  All I know is that he's a reliable infielder and a professional hitter.

I did forget that the Nats get an extra $500,000 in international bonus money and an extra draft pick. #silverlinings

Per Heyman, Donaldson plan A. Debating on the 4th year. Braves main competition. Plan B/C could be Franco and look at Seager.

I hate Franco. He doesn't fit this culture at all.

I mean, I think it's fantastic, considering were 100K from signing Acuna.

Agreed.

I also think the Lerners got played by Boras on Strasburg. I dont think there was any way he was leaving and could have been brought back for less.

The thing about Franco is that it basically buys you time for Kieboom to develop in the minors. Plug him at third for a month and let him get comfortable.

He’s not a good hitter. Or fielder. But how does he not fit the culture. I’ve never heard anything about him being a problem in the clubhouse.

He does a shuffle when people throw him balls.

But seriously...isn't he known to antagonize refs?

I'm not opposed to having someone come in and force Kieboom to take his job, it's just not him.

I never heard anything bad about Franco's attitude, just that he was overhyped as a prospect and is not a great MLB player.

If I remember correctly, when he was available most of the posters didn't want him.
