Well this explains the slow off-season:

Gonna go ahead and say we won both of those trades

When you win the World Series, does that mean you win every preceding trade?

Blake Trienen non tendered by the As. Stephen Souza same with the DBacks.
Treinen's career has been the Mother of All Yo-Yos (MOAY).  I suppose Souza is now marked as "injury prone".

Moose 4/64 to the Reds
I suppose the Reds outbid everyone by a wide margin.  I wanted Moose to be wearing a curly W cap, but not at that price.

Guerra gone.

All of these bullpen guys except Hudson and Doolittle can kick bricks. There is so little to like about the BP situation.

Rosenthal reporting that Strasburg has met with the Dodgers and will soon be meeting with the Yankees.

Rizzo needs to sober up. :)

The Yankees are going to pay a fortune in luxury tax if they get Stras.

Just Boras driving the signing price up. Ken R also said someone (Morosi?) was expecting Rendon to sign "early."

Rendon and Stras both seem like guys who will want this over in the coming few weeks.  They don't want to be like Harper and Machado.

Both Machado and Harper got more money by signing late.  This is a once in a lifetime thing for these guys.  Keep that in mind.

I don’t think this is true. I think Philly made their offer early and no one came close to matching it. They both waited so long because the agents wanted to beat each other.

Guys on WJFK are talking about a report that Rendon wants a five year deal with an AAV equivalent to Aronado

And why wouldn't he? At least as good as Nolan and has achieved a lot more.

This article could be wrong of course.  But it has specifics for the money and length.

That seems like a no brainer. 5 years at 32.5 million AAV? Oh hell yes.

Yes, why would you turn down a guy who doesn't want a deal past his prime years?

that was their consensus.  If that's what he wants then it seems the only obstacles to getting a deal done would be if the Nats want to pay deferred money, and if Rendon really doesn't want to be here.

The report is from Olney, as with most, it's based on a ton of speculation:

Quote
As reported in September, friends of Rendon believe he's not going to take the conventional path through free agency. Rather than look for a long-term deal that lasts into his late 30s, they think he's more interested in a deal in the range of five years, presumably for a higher average annual salary. In fact, some executives believe that Rendon's forthcoming contract could establish a record for highest annual value.

Hell.....I would give him 240 mil for 6 years without hesitating a second.

Stras 180 mil for 6 years.

it is 5:30 AM.  If this isn't done by 6 AM, then the Nats are idiots.

Looking at the Olney report, 5 @ 35MM per year would set an AAV record. Maybe the hold up is that they are trying to do both Stras and  Rendon at the same time and what one gets impacts the other.
