Awful decision by Rizzo

I don't know.  Seems like a pretty good guarantee of Difo getting cut unless the options are somehow even worse, which would take a little doing given that the Rule 5 draft exists.

It’s not like we have a lot of backup options right now. Difo would have to win the backup job in camp to get paid, and it’s likely he’ll compete against Sanchez and a couple ST invite folks.

Nats agree on a one year deal with Strickland.

Hunter Strickland’s new deal with #Nationals, per source: One year, $1.6M, plus performance bonuses: $75K each for 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 games; $50K for 20 games finished, $100K for 30 games finished.

Seems a bit surprising but we don't have a lot of options and that's cheap if he returns to form.

Surprising since they already have a 3B. I suppose he will play second.  The Reds seem desperate. They are not that close to contending.

MLBTR says Strickland's deal isn't guaranteed, so that would mean he'd need to make the club out of ST to get paid.

Are all arbitration deals non-guaranteed?

if he's effective, then he's likely to make  > 40 appearances so should make more than the $1.9MM MLBTR projected.  The non-guaranteed aspect of this is interesting.  As I understand it, if you go to arb and win, the team can release you and only be on the hook for a 1/5 of the pay (or so) if they release you at some point in the spring.   This seems like a deal that takes the team offer and adds to it an opportunity to earn the higher number if the performance is good.

From what I can find, yes.  Thanks for pointing that out.

Looks like the Nats are offering a bunch of the marginal arbitration tender cases offers that are below the projections and may cut those that don't take it.  Elias would be one to watch, and of course Taylor.  Turner gets offered arb. Guerra is another marginal.

Yes. We're spending 2.6 million to get performance we could get for a million or less.

Slate is in full blow it up mode.  I like the it.  The World Series 30 day grace period has passed.  What have you done for me lately, Rizzo?

Stephen Strasburg has met with multiple teams so far this fall, according to those with knowledge of his free agency. The Nationals, as Rizzo just confirmed, are not one of those clubs.

Mark probably wrote it on a napkin and left it in his locker. Deferred money until 2069, of course
