"[TEAM] interested in [PLAYER]" reports are entirely agenda-driven. This is clearly from his agent, he's making it clear his player is in top demand. Then Feinsand quotes a random executive who says a team that doesn't feel confident on Rendon could move on Donaldson. What a revelation.

If I'm Rizzo I have my guys leak to the media that the Nats are interested in everyone, because all it does is give the idea that we're looking to spend cash anywhere.

Cole doesnt expect to sign untim January.

Feel like Stras will be decided by (or at) the winter meetings.

Rendon .... who knows. I dont even think he knows what he wants.

1 year $5 million plus $5 million in incentives.  Pretty nice deal for STL.

If we bring back Stras, it's gotta be under 30 MM AAV.
Six years for $170mm.

If Howie leaves, the A's and rays seem to be obvious fits.  The A's want Lefty's though with a right heavy line up.

I'm wondering if zobrist could replace Howie for us and mitigate the need to get another quality backup infielder (Cabrera).  He'd be fairly cheap and likely only take a one year deal.  Switch hitter who walks a lot and can play second, lf, rf, and some 1st and short.  How's his relationship with Davey from their time in Tampa Bay?

Zobrist is 38 and is unsure if he's going to play next year:

Nothing really new, just says he's going to meet with Boras this week.

Ok Nats, time to call old Grandpa Shark Ted out of the bullpen and put him in a room with Scott Boras and their drinks of choice and let them work this thing out.

I'm trying to get a read on the Lerners. Are they more the type of owners that won one and now feel justified to spend what they need to spend to go for another, or to rest on their laurels for a season or 2 and put crap out on the field to save money.

To keep Stras and Rendon I wouldn't be surprised to see them go over the CAP since it was re-set. I don't believe they will sit on their laurels and go for a painful re-build in several years. They have too many good young players ( Soto , Robles , Turner ) not to surround them with solid vets and be a perenniel play-off team.

You know daddy Lerner wants to pull out "Grandpa Shark saves the day" one more time.  Hopefully twice.

I doubt the Nats can swing a deal with the Blows, but Mychal Givens's away stats last year are pretty good for a 7th/8th inning guy.

Yea, I'd want Mancini and Givens. Garcia, Denaburg/Crowe, and Canning/Sharpe/Augustin should be a fair trade, anomicities between clubs not withstanding.

Dougherty:

Scott Boras is out to get teams to spend on starting pitching this winter, since he has Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg and Hyun-jin Ryu as clients. He told a story today in his efforts to get the market going.

Boras says that, four offseasons ago, he told three teams that they needed his client to win a World Series. None of the three teams signed him. None of them have won a title. But another club did. The client was Max Scherzer.

Mancini has a bat, to be sure. He hits top of rotation pitching, much like Markakis in his prime (he's not too bad now either). Givens would be great if he could cut down on the long balls. Then again, with his away splits apparently being OK, maybe it's just an OPACY thing. More importantly, aside from the bad blood and rivalry, these guys could be "gettable."
